Back to the OS LA 40 running rich, mine always smokes a little and always covers the plane with slime. I've gotten used to it and reckon that it's not doing any harm to the motor (which probably can't be said for the plane). It's definitely 2 stroking so not too rich. Oh and on the subject of prop sizes I use an 11x5 on my trainer, gives it some poke without revving it's head off.

You speak well for OS ,and OS speaks well for itself. They are excellent engines. I can also speak well for the ST .34, .40, and .91. They are very user friendly, easily tuned, and very reliable. Some have a sleeve in the carb throat and the first thing many do is remove it, seeking more power. All this does is mess up the transition. There's also a little trick to tuning the low end.

Another great engine is Webra. I've flown the .32 Speed, .40 Speed, and .91 Speed. All have gobs of power. The HS needle is a little touchy, but usually easily tuned. They are a little harder to chicken stick start than the OS or ST, but still a great engine.

I've heard great reports about Thundertiger Pro series, but haven't flown one myself.

Dr1,

While I agree that ST's a great engines, I personally have had no luck with them. I did not mention webra's since I only 40 speed on a SSE and what an engine, good looking to boot.

I guess then you could say that almost any engine when properly broken in and tuned can be a great engine.
