Default 1st Acrobat - AWESOME

hey everyone , i crashed my trainer while flying with my friends , because i misjudged the height of a tree and smacked into the top of it , - result , one half of the wing smashed , tail feathers ripped off , etc , so i went along to my model shop and i picked up a black horse air speed 40 , its awesome , so responsive to inputs , i dont know why because the control surfaces are smaller than the ones of my trainer , but it responds instantly and strongly , the only thing i noticed on its first flight was it corksrewing out of a loop , quite badly , it veers out to the left and kindof rolls a little , its probably out of trim , the engine thrust line is probably wrong , i dont know , it was an artf and i just whacked it all together and flew it , everything looks very straight i meusured the tail posistion when i fitted it and everything , maybe i need some right thrust?? its just dead straight at the moment . or maybe i need some aileron trim i dont know , i geuss i am kindof used to flying out of trim planes because im not sure how to trim properly , so i am always watching to keep the wings where i want them , i geuss this is why i did not have a problem flying this low wing acrobat , anyway , i want it to loop straight , what can i do ??

anyway , apart from that the first flight went well , i did a couple barrell rolls , loops , ( but with a corksrew out lol) and a few low passes by
and it was so much fun having that much response so quickly

ps i will post some pictures on this thread soon

Looks awsome. Is it a tail dragger or trike?

"corkscrewing" out of a loop is usually caused by too much elevator throw. If you are holding the elevator all the way back, and there is too much throw in the surface, the plane will snap out of the loop--causing the "corkscrew" you are talking about. Also, if not elevator, it can be caused by lateral unbalance. Most probably, though, it is due to too much elevator. Next time up, try only going about 3/4 with the stick and see if you get a nice round loop. If you do, then you've solved the problem--back the throw off a little and problem resolved!

It also could be lateral balance but I agree with 2slow on this one. More like to much elevator and not enough speed which results in a tip stall, hence the corkscrew effect.

I would bet $$ on too much elevator -- that particular model is prone to tip stalling. Keep lots of speed in your final turn on landing approach.

Pilot Chad - it came with the gear to be a trike , but where i fly its too rough for takeoffs and landings so i havnt fitted any gear , i hand launch myself ( plane in one hand control in other ) with a touch up elevator trim and then once i have the control in both hands i take off the trim , i just land on the belly on the grass , but in a week or two i am joining a local flying club that has a proper runway so i will get to try a real takeoff and landing , but i dont think i will fit the trike , i think i will make a nice aluminium undercarrige and get a good tailwheel setup

i just go down to lytham marsh when its not too bad , dont pick a day too sunny , i dont mind a few dog walkers , some of them dont like it because it scares the dog but hey , i dont like standing in dog @@@@ either , so we have to make a compromise , they usually go away as soon as i start tuning the motor on the ground , and then if you get the ones that want to talk to you , i just tell them to stay behind me , or i cant gaurentee their safety .

i have never flown on stanley park but i bet its good..

i have often thought about st annes beach at low tide .. more than enough space , only concern is sand in the engine

do you know the field i mean? oposite stanley park?.the big one near the devere hotel!!.its a bit bumpy in parts but its not too bad for a running take off!!.i actually crashed my plane into the overgrown allotments next to it!!,good job the old geazer wasnt working his garden?,but seriously though i was lucky it crashed into 4 ft grass and stuff!!.its still in one peice apart from a couple of patches and a bit of glueing to the fuse!!.im not sure where lytham marsh is but i dont supose its hard to find?.i think the beach would be ok as long as you stick to the wet sand !!

lytham marsh is that bit of waste land infront of the white windmill , that leads out to the estuary , i fly over that waste land and out over the estuary , i have never strayed too far out over there though incase it comes down out there
