I left a similar posting in the Clubhouse but got no replies at all. So, I thougt I would try it here to see if I get anything.. besides the one or two that will tell me that it doesn't belong here.
Ok.. I will be in the Baltimore MD area next week for a couple of weeks and want to take one or two of my aircraft with me to fly on my time off.
Does anyone know of a nearby club? I will be on the south side of the city near BWI airport.
Thanks.
DS.

There are a number of clubs in the nearby Baltimore Area. The closest one will be the SWAP (Southwest area park club). Not too far will be the PGRC (Prince Georges RC club) which will be just south between Baltimore and Washington. There are a number just to the west including Free State and Westminster off of I-70. Check the AMA site for contact info. www.modelaircraft.org

Hi CGRetired - I usually look for posts like yours, sorry I missed yours in the Clubhouse.
Try this, it's Bill Lee's [link=http://www.ama-dist-8.org/Clubs/Locator.php]AMA Club Locator,[/link] I tried the Baltimore Zip of 21202 and a search radius of 25 miles and came up with 12 RC Clubs. If you see a result that says "Link to GPS and Aerial Photos", you will find even more info including a pretty decent map. You won't see a push pin on the map, but if you don't move the map and just zoom in the RC Field's Runway should be in the center of your screen.
If you have a GPS, let me know and I can e-mail you an Excel file with the data if it would be easier. I like to use MSN Streets and Trips and import the Excel file directly. This then allows you to use the routing function to make it even easier. I have this data on my website at [link=http://groups.msn.com/PuttsRCHomePage/]Putt's RC Home Page.[/link] Go to the Documents folder and simply choose the AMA Dist of interest.
Hope this helps a little and isn't to late for you trip. Good Flying

Hi Greg.
Yep, I have GPS so send it along. [email protected] will do it. I will be leaving on Monday morning so it's not to late.
I One of the replies was from the SWAPRC club in Baltimore. From their map, it looks like its just down the street from where I will be working but all sites are good to have because I have the feeling I will be back down there again in the near future.
I will also try the web site you suggested.
Thanks again.

Hi Greg.
I went to your web site and took a look around. Man, is that impressive!
I also found our club, Atlantic County Skyblazers, Atlantic County, NJ. We have two fields, and there is some issue as to what one is our main field
mainly because one field, Riverbend, is mainly used by helicopter flyers because it is smaller than our other field, Strawberry. I took note of your lat/long coordinates which are in decimal. Here is the coordinate for Strawberry which is in degrees/minutes/seconds. You may have our old field listed which is now a golf course..[:@].
Strawberry is 39 19 18.16N 74 43 29.7W. 43 feet altitude.
Riverbend is 39 22 23.13N 74 42 26.41W 7 feet.
Strawberry is located in Mays Landing, NJ. If you use Google Map, you can zoom in on Mays Landing, zoom out a bit till you see the race track (it is along the Black Horse Pike, NJ route 322) then go north-west along the pike. The field is very visible using the Google Map Hybrid or Satellite view because it actually looks like an airport. It is a very nice grass runway that the NJ Department of Forestry uses when there is a forest fire in the pineland forests. They land aerial tankers there for refuel and filling in the water tanks.
Riverbend is a part of the county park, an area that was supposed to be converted into a ball field, they chose another area instead and gave us permission to fly there.
Since we started the two fields, Stockton College, which is in Galloway Township, gave us permission to use their large field, which is at 39 29 11.56N 74 33 13.14W 52 feet.
So, we have three places to fly and loving it!
Thanks again for your information. As you may have noticed, I registered on your web site and will take advantage of it

Hi and thanks. I will be working at Met Labs on Pataspco Ave in Baltimore which, from the map you provided, is just down the street.
When do you guys fly? Evening? What time? I will be staying at the Embassy Suites at BWI while there, and I will be there for two weeks.
Thanks.

Absolutely my pleasure and thank YOU! It's often a thankless job to do something like you are doing. I have already passed the word on to several of my fellow RC'ers. I am the club newsletter editor so I will add it to the newsletter this week.
Thanks again.

Hey cgretired,
I don't know if you would be interested in driving some possibly on the weekend, but our club in Western Md. is about 2 hours from Baltimore. Here is a link to our web site:

We always love having people visit us for some flying and we have a really beautiful flying site in the mountains!

CG,
There seems to be 2 groups of flyers. Early afternoon and late afternoon. I usually fly late afternoons. Looks like great weather for the week. If you come around after 6pm I will be the big tall one with the Hobbico trainer.
Doesn't look like I will make it Tuesday nite prolly Wed and Thu though.

Thanks for the info and the invite.
I don't know about Monday cuz I will be getting up like 3:00 am to drive down to Baltimore from NJ. I may be rather bushed. But, the rest of the week, tue, wed, thu will be alright by me. The following week, tue/wed/thu will be ok toom Monday is Labor day, might drive down in the PM on Mon to avoid the early start again.
I will look for you. I will be driving a dark blue VW Jetta diesel (hear it from a mile away..ha). Not sure what plane(s) i can pack in there.. maybe my Tiger 60 and Four Star 40.

Ah, so next week. I misunderstood. As a relative re-newcomer I am spending lots of time at the field during the week if I can get away with it. Will be looking forward to meeting you. If weather holds good I will make it a point to show up Tuesday of next week at 6ish.

I stopped by the field on Monday evening this week. Flew one tank but people were leaving so I packed up and left. I met Ralph and one other chap that was teaching his wife to fly.
Very nice field!! I was a tad bit intimidated at first because our field is an actual full-scale grass field so we have a very very long area to make approaches and landings, however, after a couple of fly-by's to get the feel of the landing pattern, greased my landing. Very nice!!!
I went out again on Tuesday but the gate was closed and locked. Wednesday was a bust, drove home, we ended up finishing testing early so I headed home. I will be back out there on Tuesday and will bring my planes. I look forward to going back out there. By the way, I was working at Met Labs on Patapsco Ave just about across the street from the rail station... so in effect, right across the street from the field!! Very convenient!!
Thanks for inviting me.
Dick.
