RE: finally finished the pete n poke
I started this kit last winter and had it ready to cover minus the sanding of the balsa filler and got to flying, Saturday got rained out from flying and decided to get to covering. About 12 hrs saturday, 11 or 12 sunday, and 10 hrs today. Finally finished. Now after all the horror storied I've heard about this plane I need to work up the gumption to fly it. BTW. this plane is fitted with an OS 46 AX engine w/ 10x6 prop and airtronics radio gear.
EDIT: Airtronics, not Futaba radio DOH!

Tsands,
Take a few minutes and stretch out the muscles in your arm. Why??? To give yourself a pat on the back!! All I can say is---- WOW!!! That is an incredible job.
Let us know how she flys. If she flies half as good as she looks then it's going to be a great flying plane.

Beautiful job on the "Poke".
Just a word of caution; I hope you reinforced the wing supports with tooth picks or small screws. Several "Poke" owners have had the supports fail with the result of the wing going one way and the fuse another.
Having said that, my "Poke" flies well, but can be a little challenging in a moderate cross wind.
You will enjoy your "Poke".

Thanks. I reinforced with toothpicks AND screws. Read many threads about this plane before I built. We are very fortunate to have a place like RCU to get info from great folks. I'm sure I will enjoy it.

I have a 'Poke'. Mine is setup with a Saito .56 4 stroker. This plane doesn't turn too well and you should couple your rudder with the ailerons. Dial in about 20%. I have my throws on the ailerons set at 120%. It flies great when its calm but if its breezy, its a real handful as the wind knocks the crap out of it in the air.

That's a nice lookin poke. I kept reading about it just "mushing" around and seemoing like it just wanted to stall at any second. Have you experienced any of those problems?

I experienced the "mushing" once when I rotated a little early, but once I gained some speed it was fine. IMHO, if the plane is a little tail heavy it will tend to "mush" and stall. I have the OS52 4 stroke which provides a little more weight in the nose and it flies straight and level.

Great looking covering job! May I suggest though that you change the prop for a 11-5 or 11-6. The 46 AX engine has a lot of power and will turn a 11" prop with plenty of rpms. I have both a 46FX and the newer 46AX. The AX seems to actually have a bit more power and the idle is a bit smoother. [8D]

Looks beutiful. I've always wanted to build a Poke but too many other things keep getting ahead of it on the priority list. Only saw one at our field. It flew very well as I'm sure yours will.
