I am looking for a site where I can get a field box. I visited my local flying field over the weekend and noticed that nearly all field boxes had battery charges built in the side, at least it looked like a charger; it had a meter and gauge so I assume it was.
Anyway, any good sitee that sell these boxes?
Thanks,
SAF

many sights sell them. sig, horizon hobbies, tower hobbies. many many more sell them. you could go and build your own design like a friend of mine did. his stands tall enough to hold the plane at eye level when sitting back in a chair!! makes it easy to work on at the field.

the "charger" you were seeing is probably a power panel.

What's it do? Is ti for testing power levels on battery packs?

It has 12v output for a starter, switched and reversable 12v output for a fuel pump, a variable output for a glow plug, with a meter to tell how high it's set (and which helps you tell if you've blown your plug), and a charger for a glow starter (which I refuse to use since the driver on the panel works so much better).

Hey,
I use and like the Hanger 9 box pretty well, it holds nearly everything you should need for a day at the field. (Tool wise) Horizon hobby sells it for a resonable price....http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByC...?ProdID=HAN130

I like my Great Planes Master Caddy, but considering how much time I put into I suggest the prebuilt one for the extra 10 bucks. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPS86&P=7
One thing I did build was a collapsible wheel dollie that I can put my flight box on and pull it with rope, like a wagon. Makes for the long walk from the parking lot to the flying field that much easier.

SAF,
If you don't mind building a box, I recommend SIG. They are completely laser cut. Here are their boxes for nitro, [link=http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmart.exe/MainMenuFV4.html?E+Sig]Mini Boss[/link] and [link=http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmart.exe/MainMenuFV4.html?E+Sig]Field Boss[/link]. The Mini holds a 1/2 gallon of fuel (1/2 gallon container included with the kit.) and the Field Boss holds the gallon jug or can that your fuel comes in. I bought the Mini at Tower Hobbies, but they do not carry the Field Boss. I believe you can also order them directly from SIG. I built mine using CA because I had planned on a clear finish. You can paint them of course but the wood looks very nice just cleared. Here is my Mini Boss and the finish that I used.

Gene, looks nice. I've got one comment. The last time I built a field box I used CA. Over time the joints on the thinner wood (drawers) started breaking. CA doesn't flex well. I'd suggest using wood glue or epoxy rather than CA. These seem to hold up better with such woods.

For about $10.00 you cal pick up a fair size plastic tool box from Wallmart that will hold most everything. Just do a cut out in the front for mounting the power panel. In mine I have a 45 oz. fuel tank, electric fuel pump, and a 8 amp hr. gell cell battery to power every thing. Its proven itself to be sturdy, fuel proof, and doesn't require painting.[8D]

i bought one of the black and decker rolling two piece tool boxes and used my power panel in the side of that also holds a gallon of fuel in the bottom section and has plenty of storage space in the top.i was using one of those 12 volt dry telephone batterys in the bottom,i had a brainfart and got a booster battery they use for cars from Sam's club with the jumper cables,i took it apart and put female banana plugs and now i use it as a power supply for my starter and also plug it into the power panel when needed.i didn't like the idea of charging the dry battery and it was in the same location as the fuel but other side with a partition in between them removing and installing the 12 volt battery got to be a hassel.the 12 volt booster has 200 cranking amps and that runs my starter really well,it also has a built in 20 amp fuse in case of an overload.if anyone is interested i will make a few photos and post them.it was pretty simple to add the female banana plugs in the side of it.i have seen a lot of pictures posted here of the modified tool boxes, here is the post address.

Thanks. If I remember right, the ply that SIG used is all the same thickness and the box is solid. They didn,t cut corners on the unseen parts.

I got a Sig, use a light stain, then polyurethane. It does look nice. Only prob was in a couple of spots I let the CA oose out onto the exterior. CA does not stain![:@]
