So you like building with magnets Ken? [sm=bananahead.gif]

Seriously, it's a really good idea. I'm thinking over building an 8x4ft table for my shop, possibly with a metal surface for building. I've used pins for lotsa years and it's difficult(in my mind) to make the leap all at once. I may have to try it eventually though.

cwrr5 - Do it gradual. Do the steel top now and switch to magnets later. Sure it will be tough to get the pins into the steel at first but "You're the man".

The biggest expense of the system was the magnets. Cafeenman's site lists the steel at about $80, but I was able to get all the steel I used on my project for $42 (and I used 18 gauge steel too). If you call the magnet source and tell them you are coming from Cafeenman's website they are really good on the price. The cost for the amount I bought should have been 55ΒΆ/magnet but they gave me the lower cost of 43ΒΆ/magnet with my order which helped out a lot.

ORIGINAL FROM cwrr5

tigerdude bought my LT-40 for the price of a build thread, "cwrr5 style" (LOTS of pictures, and lotsa detail, with commentary ).
Looking forward to seeing that over the winter, if I can talk him into waiting a bit. (I doubt it. )
I certainly will try to have it as a winter project, cwrr5 [:-]. But I have heard so much about the LT-40 that my excitement is building day-by-day. It will more-or-less be a FALL project the way it is looking - with the Skylark being put aside for the WINTER project. I am more interested now in getting some trainers completed so I can learn to fly (I have a feeling I am going to need both trainers to learn-and-repair on ) With the Skylark being an advanced trainer so-to-speak, that one is the one that can wait - trainers right now are more important at this stage.

Tigerdude,
I'll tell you this much, if you ever decide to not finish the Skylark I'll buy it off of you. One of my flying buddies has one and he's let me fly every now and then. Wow!!! What a great flying plane!!! What's really fun is that he will be flying his Skylark and I'll fly my Balsa USA Thunderbug and we will do formation touch-and-go landings. It's a blast. And both of us know that when we're doing that we're on borrowed time, eventually we will both try to occupy the same airspace at the same time!!

A friend of mine had his Skylark out this weekend. 40 motor with a tuned pipe, really flew hot. Unfortunately he lost sight of it and didn't see it again until just before going behind some trees. Relatively minor damage, it will fly again. STRONG plane.
