Need your thoughts on this. I have decided to get
a trainer plane that will fly and take my crashes.
Have read about the Kombat trainer. Since I am at an altitude of approx. 5000 feet, I am thinking of
getting the Kombat .60 basic trainer. I am thinking of either the tower hobbies .61 eng or the Thunder tiger .61 eng. I figure after I fly this bird then later I can think of something that
looks better.

I do not have experience with that plane but I do have experience with Thunder Tiger and Tower Hobbies engines. Both of these engines produce a lot of power and are pretty easy to tune. You could always get a trainer kit and recut the fuselage parts out of aircraft ply and beef it up to take the abuse that you want to throw at it. Beef up the wing spars and leading edges and turn it into a real bushwacker, it would probably be a bit on the heavier side but it would definately take a beating and either of the engines you are looking at pull it around just fine! I had some freinds that used this method on some Ugly Sticks and they flew great. Good Luck

Kombat trainer will work but not my choice,it,s a tuff plane.The plane is heavy for the wing area,must fly faster than most trainers,has very little recovery ability,fuel tank is low to needle valve.

You know, maybe you could look at this another way. If you get an instructor from your local club you won't need to crash your trainer at all. Mine was perfect until I decided I could train my dad after a couple of months of flying, (MUCH harder than I thought!), and even that was fairly minor damage. If you insist on cheap and crashable you might want to check out www.spadtothebone.com and look at their free plans. Close to what you're looking at.

If you want to build from a kit, I recommend the U.S. Aircore trainer. Almost indestructable, and the design does a great job of protecting your engine and radio equipment from destruction as well. If you want to build from scratch, you can save a little by building the SPAD Debonair at spad.org.

After reading all comments...My choice was boiled down to:
1-Tower Trainer 60 ARF 69.5" WS
2- .61 engine
at 5000 feet I will need the power.
The only last thing to decide on is the prop. I need one that will give me power rather then speed .

learned on a pre built rtf hobbico superstar 40. everything in box cept gas and starter. have had it for 4 years through many failed attempts at excellence. still fly on occasion if im out for relaxation or if i bring friends. price in box 300. my buddy jason tried to get me to give him the sticks on my ultimate! hes never even driven an r/c car! ha ha . i still think it's funny
