Default Vtail Question

Hi!
I am just finishing up my first aileron/rudder/flap plane. Until now, I have flown mostly Wings (like Zagi).

I converted this plane to a Vtail version and was wondering if people had any ideas for how to make the bond between the tail and boom a little stronger.

I made my tail out of balsa and gave it a small flat piece between the each side of the tail and laid the boom down onto it. Like this:

\ /
\_/

And doused with a bunch of Household Goo (I used epoxy first but it was so brittle it just separated from the fin). Unfortunately I convered the balsa fins with color tape before i glued them, I think this kind of makes a weak bond between the boom and tail.

Anyone have any good ideas for securing this sucker better?

Heres a pic of my plane (still underconstruction of course!) Looks sorta like a taxi cab!

Default thank you

Thanks HAKKINEN! Lets hope she flies well!

I built it in a rush (3 nights) so I could get it done for a local 'fun fly' we had on saturday. Well, after staying up late that night and trying to get it finished, it turned out that I ran out of time to complete it and never got to fly it. So, thats why Im back to figuring out how to make the tail stronger.

Anyways, thanks again for the compliment.

Default good idea

yeah, I was think of something similar, but your idea might have less weight than mine. I thought of drilling a hole through a small chunk of balsa and mounting the boom inside it, then attaching the tails to the sides of the square chunk (the V is pretty close to 90 degrees anyway)

Default Vtail Question

the fiberglass idea is probably the easiest to try yet. Maybe I'll attempt it this weekend.

I really like your plane! I hope to get into gas planes some day, I also race nitro gas rc cars (off road) and have allways thought it'd be cool to fly with gas! Your caption was funny too, cuz I also feel that ALL my planes were made to go down in flames! (at least most of my elctrics have!)

Thakns again for your help,
Ken
