I was wondering if it is ilegal to fly in Sandiego (or surrouning areas) calafornia, because I will be going on vacation down there and was hoping to purchase a plane and maybe get an instructor[sm=lol.gif]. I thankyou in advance for your replies.

Your best bet would be to contact a club in that area and ask them your question. They would be the best bet to get an answer.

You can find AMA chartered clubs by using the AMA Club locator
[link=http://www.modelaircraft.org/ClubZipLocator.aspx?z=92101]AMA chartered clubs, search San Diego area[/link]

Another way might be to search the RCU member list for people in the San Diego area.
[link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/community/member-lookup.cfm?RequestTimeout=50[/link]
This is the RCU member list search function. Once there you can select to search by city and then enter San Diego in the keywords box. This will give you a list of RCU members in the San Diego area.

One final option might be to contact hobby shops in the San Diego area. Here is a listing of Hobby Shops in the area as listed in the Yahoo Yellow Pages.

Hope this helps

San Diego has many fine clubs and flying sites!!

Come on down. My primary flying field is in SD county about 30 min North of SD off hwy 15 (Fallbrook). Large paved runway, instructors available most days etc...

BUT....a vacation? Buying a plane and getting instruction on vacation? How long is your vacation, a month? Don't get Epoxy on the Hotel furniture...they hate that.

Enjoy San Diego, but please leave when you are out of money [8D][8D]

Re: "purchase a plane and maybe get an instructor" < no maybes about it, get an instructor or go gambling instead. ITs safer and you may not lose all your money at once. Try to fly by yourself and its pretty certain that the plne won't last more than about 30 seconds in the air. [8D]

If you want to get some stick-time, e-mail one of the instructors at the club.

First lesson is free....(If that sounds like a drug dealer talking....it kinda is!). This hobby is highly addictive.

I will attempt to post a link here:

Good Luck!!!

A cousin of mine was supposed to bring his plane out to the field on a Saturday so I could show him what the hobby is all about but he decided to "taxi the plane a bit" at a shopping centre on Friday night. He wasn't used to the quick accelleration of the plane or the steering response. Before he knew it the plane slammed into the curb at high speed. This knocked the fire wall and the engine right out of the plane and split the fuselage down the sides where they were glue together. The wing was also damaged. The plane had serious damage before the plane even made it to the field due to inexperience. True story! Don't let it happen to you. [8D]
