I've got an Uproar, but not a 4 Star. Several guys in the club have 4 Stars. From watching them fly I think there's a bit of stability built into the 4 Star that makes it fly smooth. Since the Uproar was built to be a fun flier, it's made to be very nimble, and it goes exactly where you point it. That means one has to stay on top of it. I don't actually fly mine much. Wouldn't mind freeing up the flight pack for another plane, hint, hint, hint.

PM answered. If there's anyone out there who has flown both, please give Rog some input on how they compare.

I have not flown an Uproar but have flown the 4* and enjoyed it very much.
I have a friend at our field that flies the Uproar, flies it well and loves it.
The 4* has dihedral and and I don't think the Uproar does.
Also, I think the wingspan on the 4* is longer.
Consequently, the 4* will be more stable, better as a second plane.
What I don't like about the uproar is the wing is not removable.
This could make transportation more of a problem.
Just my thoughts,

Thanks KW, I think I'll hold off on either for now and practice more with the trainer and my 1/2A stuff...Rog

Rog I have to vote for the 46 FX.
My reason is that someone gave me a .40 fx that has seen better days, not the greatest compression and I know it has met the ground once or twice. I have been using OS engines in my cars and trucks for 15+ years and I know they run great but once I started this old 40 up and got it tuned, even with the low compression and age it still pulls the plane around with authority. I am a firm believer in OS
for my planes.

Hey Rog, I've seen you fly and have complete faith that you could crash either of these planes with equal ease Anyway I would have recomended the Uproar for you as I think you will find these "larger" planes cumbersome compared to 1/2a. I have seen the Uproar 60 and Four Star 60 fly and the uproar is far more nimble where the 4* is very gracefull and good for practicing pattern stuff. The 4* is also classified as a sport trainer. The Uproar is kind of like my Sig Something Extra. It will fly a lot like your Lil' Extra but will apear slower in all manouvers... Have you flown that yet?

Oh, and definately go for the .46FX or Fox .45 that .40 is not enough.

Flyinrog,
The fellow at our club has a 40 LA in his Uproar.
He is tickled pink with it, and he is worth watching when he flies.
He is very comfortable with larger and faster planes so it isn't a lack of experience thing.
I fly a WM Mach II with a 40 LA in it and am very pleased with its performance.
It is an excellant low wing trainer and is $85 delivered.
Both of these planes are designed for 40s and don't sell the LA short.
They have the power to do the job well and they are extremely reliable engines.
I do very little flying at full throttle. My takeoffs are very scale like (it doesn't jump off the field in 10 feet).
Just to add a cliche here "Speed Kills".
With more engine it is easier to get into trouble.
Maybe the extra power will help you get out but my experience it will be more likely to get you into trouble.
Good Luck,

Hey Rog did you get that uproar going? I know you usually deal with 1/2A so if you didn't know it already remove the baffle from the muffler on the 40LA and you will gain a good amount of power. It will still be quiter than your other planes .

I have had both. The 4 star is a great second plane - pretty docile if set up with reduced surface throws. The Uproar is a great fun-fly plane. But it goes where it is pointed. I had a OS .40 FP in mine for about three years, my .46 was just a little much to try balance it right. I had a .40, a .45, and a .60 on my 4-star, but as it got older, it had modificiations made. I enjoyed my Uproar so much, that I had to retire it for all the fuel that made it's way in to it after 5 years of flying almost every weekend that I could.

I think the .40 will do just fine in the Uproar. I plan on putting a ST .40 in mine, this is a light airplane after all.
