I remember that i once saw a site offering the FUtaba 9CAPS transmitter by itself for under 300 bucks. ANyone know of this place? I am almost positive that i saw it somewhere here and it was even recommended by someone here. I saw the price tag, and realized that i dont need a flight pack for it, so i figured i coul get the tx only and it would cost much less. Please help.
THanks

it is a module that you put in your Transmitter that has 2 dials. This allows you to synthesize the frequency. You can have 10 (as an example) planes on 10 different frequencies, then after checking the freq board to see if your freq is open, change the dials to your frequency, with the radio off. Turn it on, then you are on that freq.

At some small clubs it may be of lesser value, unless everyone is on the same channel.
As for expensive, not really too bad. Especially when bought with the radio. Also, how much is your time worth? Do you want to sit around and wait for your frequency to open up or just dial in a new one and fly. Even if you only have one plane you could carry a couple of spare rx crystals and swap them and dial up the transmitter to go fly.
Expensive is a relative term. To a beginner on a tight budget maybe, to many others it is the same as an expensive lunch. I fall more in the first category BTW, budget wise

OUr club is surprisingly oranized. We have people who write down the names next ot the channel they use. So far, only one other club member is on my channel, and i rarely see him. So yeah, for me it wont do too good.

I don't suppose the synthesizer allows you to cross the line between Futaba & JR does it? I just got a new JR radio but I still have alot of Futaba stuff. I have some planes allready set up with Futaba that I'm gonna have to buy new receivers for so I can set everything up to the new JR Tx. If I got a module for the JR Tx could I just dial in the channel my Futaba planes are on & fly them off the JR ? probably no such luck, huh?

You're correct - no such luck. You would need to buy receivers that can be switched between positive and negative shift. I'm thinking there is a brand out there that does that and is reliable too but can't remember the name for sure. Maybe Hitec but check to make sure.

By the way, i was just curious. WIth the availability of great futaba and hitec radios, which one is the best? I was looking at JR Radios as well. Between Hitec, Futaba and JR, which radio has the best radio with 7 or more channels? (I am aware that JR doesnt work with futaba and hitec gear.)

This will be a matter of: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
You need to decide which one has the features and "feel" that you like and which one YOU feel programs easier and many other things. Best bet is to actually get your hands on some of these and see how they feel in your hands and talk one-on-one with the owners. Some stay with a brand because that is all they have ever had, others have actual valid reasons.

I agree with Bruce, the "best" radio is the one that you like the most. All of the major radio manufacturers (Futaba, Airtronics, JR, and Hitec) all put out high quality radios that perform very well. The "best" for you is the one that most meets your needs. What I recommend is for you to sit down and make a list of features that you want in a radio, then select the radio that best meets those needs.
A lot of the time a person will become "brand loyal" to the radio that their instructors have. When I learned to fly most everybody at the field flew Airtronics radios, so that's what I purchased too. Now that's all that I fly.
Hope this helps

I just thought it was purdier! lol. To tell ya the truth it would have made much better since for me to go with the Futaba, or at least the HiTech Eclipse 7, being that most of my planes are allready set-up with Futaba & Hitech stuff that my Dad gave me when I first got started. I actually walked into the LHS to buy the Futaba 6EXA (I think) but when I got that JR in my hands, (just like bruce suggested) it was a whole different ballgame. It was only about $40 more, and I just loved the way this thing looked & felt in my hands. It was also loaded with a few more features than the Futaba as well. 10 model memory as opposed to 6, some more mixing capapabilities, & there were a few others that I can't name ya off the top of my head because it really came down to the fact that I liked the JR better, & when my wife said " oh just get the one want you really want " that was all it took. So now I have to try to sell or trade my old recievers & buy new ones for at least 3 planes, but oh well, I got the one I really wanted just like she said.
I think you'll find that "Futaba vs JR" will turn into the old "Ford vs Chevy" type of deal. I think as long as you're willing to spend a little money, they are both excellent radios. So do like bruce told ya & go down to the LHS & they'll let ya tinker with both & see which one rings your bell.
I didn't mean to exclude HiTech from the race there either. I think the Eclipse7 is also a very nice unit, & if you can get past the looks, the Polk Hobbies Tracker III is probably the best value for dollars on the market. Personally, I just couldn't do it. I admit it, looks are important to me. Just read my signature

i don't know why but all the sudden (it happened a few months ago) I can't trim down the throtle on my 9cap. The trim function only works when the throtle stick almost at the top end (full throtle), i mean only when at that stick position that i can trim up or down. this problem only happen on the throtle, not others. i have tried to fix it, first by following everything related to the trim function in the manual. when that unfruitful, i tried mechanically, by unscrew the stick base and swap it's the position by rotating the base. Can someone help me here, tq

Unfortunately it sounds like you may need to contact customer service at Futaba. Send them an email & see what they have to say, you may still be under warranty, I have know idea of how long ago you bought it or anything like that, but i would certainly give them a try first before I got to tinkering with it too much. Good luck.
