Where in Rockland County are you?
I used to live in Old Tappan, and Newburgh NY. I flew with the RC/RC club in Orangeburg and the S.O.U.R.S. Club in Newburgh

SIG field boss ! Great quality and spacious design. Don't use CA as stated in the manual. I use 30-min epoxy with brick clamps. Painted it with polyurethane and used the excess pieces of wood (the drawer separators which I didn't think were necessary) for making a detachable cradle and pump holder. It's a beauty !

Terrillflyer,
I am also new to the RC Airplane world and am interested in your hand made box. Do you have plans or a sketch? I would also like to build my own, but don't know exactly what size to make since I really don't know what kind of tools I need to carry. I understand a 12 volt source and a bottle of fuel and pump but beyond that I'm not sure.

You need drawers and shelves and stands and racks and and.... Oh sorry, build it yourself with enough space to hold everything you carry to the field now and a few extra places for props, nuts/bolts/, plastic thingies, and a few widgets. If you outgrow it, sell it and build yourself another one.

You don't have to have a set design. I currently working on one using an aluminum dolly as a frame. Slide it out of the truck and roll it to the pits. I'll try and post some pics when I'm done. May take a while as I have a buzillion projects going on at onec.

I do things differently from many modelers. I take only the items I need to the flight line. I don't like carrying a heavy box laden with everything that I could possibly need only to carry it back to the car in tact. I leave all those extra items in the car.
For that reason, I designed what I call the "basic necessities" field box. It will carry everything needed for flying plus some of the extra essentials. Plans are available on my web page for free.
There are a plans and construction articles for a lot of the other tools of the hobby there also and they are all free.

Morning jerrysat, don't have prints or plans, look at other boxes then make your own design. One person carries nothing to the field, thats the one that takes up half everyone's flying time while borrowing tools and parts that never get paid back, next person carries so many planes and equiment that they can fly all weekend, except for food breaks,{me}.Everyone is different,do your thing and have fun. Also I have a basic box that gets me in the air on late evenings,no spare anything. If any thing goes wrong it's over till back at the shop,or I bum off friends.

I built my own out of 1/4 birch ply from home depot. Just looked at a stock one and read their measurements. Added custom stuff and had fun. Wood was about $7.00. Electric panel was $20.00 and 12volt battery was 20.00. Try it.
