This weekend I had my first solo flight on the PTS trainer! I'm really psyched I just need 2 more solos unitl I'm official
It was really cold out and I think I was a little nervous which made my hands even colder, but I'm really happy about having my first flight where I did everything! So I guess this is just one example of someone who's soloed on the new PTS trainer, I love this plane and I'm really glad that I'm going to be able to soup it up (much later on)... I'm going to leave it in the trainer configuration for awhile before I take the droops off. It took we awhile to get to this point because of school work and the weather not cooperating but I've been really happy with the PTS as a trainer. I think being a video gamer and spending hours and hours on AFPD really have helped and I can't wait to go forward in this hobby!

That is great on your first solo with the P-51. Is this your first solo ever or have you been flying high wing trainers before. I ask because I have been flying high wing trainers and really want the P-51 PTS, but I am slow to move forward to it and then find out I'm not ready for it. Anyway great job.

This was my first solo flight ever. The PTS is the only plane that I've had... I can't really comment on the jump from a high wing to this, because I've never flown anything else. I think that it is a good stable aircraft, and although I had to take longer in training then most, I think that I've learned some skills that I wouldn't have gotten with a high wing trainer. I think that if you are comfortable with the high wing that there wouldn't be any reason not to go to the P51, but I would say that you shouldn't be to quick to take the training aids off of it. I think the air brakes should go immediately as they really slow the plane down, and make it unstable in moderately windy conditions, with those things on it seemed like it was pretty close to the stall speed most of the time. Other than that it's a very stable plane and I would recommend it as a trainer, although I think lots of sim time is a must, and video game experience is highly useful.. I don't know what it's like not to have that experience but I would think that it would be much more difficult. I think you should go ahead and get the PTS as its a great plane, and if you look at the mods people are putting on it in the ARF forum, you can see that it'll really grow with you. Here's hoping that I keep it in one piece until that time

Pendraegon, I'm sure I'll have one this spring. This week our daytime highs are from 10 to 20's and windy. So I have some time to save the $$. Hope you have good flights and let me know how it goes for you.

Pendraegon,
Congrats on your first solo flight of P51 Mustang, well I must admire you that U flew it infact I would say u took the risk and benefited, I had this lovely plane gift of my wife a combo of hangar 9, flew it 3 times with experts, but everybody said switch to high wing trainer, I did myself disassemble engine, servos, and installed on high wing, I had to get servos calibrated but I felt successful to do that and very confident like i did big achievement. I did my solo flight on my high winger infact I have done 4 to 5 solo flights on my high winger and did good landings, still need more practice and going to participate in competition in Novice category this friday, I hope it would be good for me. Im still not prepared to fly my mustang as I have to reinstall engine servos, everything back there and fly it but hopefully Im going to fly it again real soon. Once again congrats and I m gonna take chance on my P51 Mustang when I would be confident enuff with my high wing trainer. My wife is great support in fixing landing gears and other stuff much smarter than me, Im planning to train my wife in future.

Pendraegon,
Congrats on the solo. It's a great feeling. Heck, I bet you still have that silly little smile on your face don't ya?? Don't worry about it, I had the same smile for 3 weeks.
A solo flight is a great accomplishment and that wins you one genuine RCU ATTABOY (Suitable for framing, wrapping fish, or lining trashcans).

RCKen,
Hi, I did nearly 4 to 5 successful solo flights including landing, do I entitle for this AttaBoy certificate? if yes, I would like it in the name Mahmood Khan "Mody".
Thanks
