Default Servo Head Question

Since i wasn't answered on the radio forum ill post it here,

I have a Fatuba 4VF and with the system came 9 servo heads (4 wheels, 4 6 armed servo heads, and 4 x style). The question is which one do i use for which servo. Using the least amount of power but greatest response. Its an kadet LT-40.

Hi PaPa-,
sounds like your progressing nicely.
I don't use the wheels. I use either the X or the 6 arm, but cut off any unused arm after test fitting.

P.S. Make sure to use the proper size drill bit on the arms.
Don't want any play in your control surfaces.

Default It Depends

It depends on the amount of control surface throw (or travel) you want. From experience I know you will need one of the 6 armed head for the throttle. I usually would put the 6 armed ones on the Elevator and Rudder also. Then use the "X" one for the ailerons. The farther out you connect the push rod to the servo arms(heads) the more throw (or Travel) you get on the control surface.

I would recommend that you use the servo arms that would give you close to the recommended throws (or travel) that the instruction book call out for the control surface.

Use whichever one fits. Don't cut any arms off unless you have to.

If an arm is not in use does that mean i should cut it off?

No, don't cut it off unless it interferes with the pushrod or connector. You may need that arm on your next airplane, or the one after. Also, after you have been flying awhile, you may decide you need to rework the servo mounting and that you need the arm you cut off. So, as I said above, don't cut off any of the arms unless they are in the way.

Steve,

I'm thinking about a new flyer with a trainer that may need to be reworked by his flight instructor at the field. If he has used the wrong holes and has cut off the arm that gives him the correct throttle throw (for example) he might be out of luck for a while.

Once he has more experience, he can cut off as many arms as he likes. But until he has the experience to know which arms work and why, he is way better off not cutting off any arms unless he has to.
