Hello All... well as you can see I am a new member and new to R/C Flying after being given a gift voucher off a family friend. The voucher was for $300 and I went and spent another $700 to get ALL the gear!!.... So I did the RIGHT
thing and purchased a nice easy ARF trainer. With a little help from the club buddies I built her and today she flew for the first time!!!
Another bloke from the club took her up and trimmed her... then I got to have a little go with him still ready and at the controls.. I reckon I am in love with this already, and cannot wipe the smile from the face!! Its great to see what you built actually take to the air.!!... It has a 46 OS AX engine on board and she screams along nice....
Whats even better is that tommorow is a public holiday and the weather prediction is good... so maybe I can burn some more fuel.... I hope the instructors turn up
..... See you in the air!!

Firstly welcome to Flying,
The Excel 2000 is an awesome trainer in my eye's i had one, if for instance it was a 10 knot breeze Tomorrow the plane could almost hover in the air almost like a kite it is a very forgiving trainer the only thing i found that let it down some was the front wheel the plane wanted to tip all the time so i was always bending the front wheel forward.
Acouple tips if you have not already gotten an exhaust extension get one (Only $7) because the oil from the engine will spill onto the wing and tail & over time you will get sick and tired of whiping the plane down everytime you fly it, Secondly if its within your Budget get RealFlight G3 or any flight Sim PC game for that matter for those days that you can't get out to fly due to wheather or your instructor doesnt show up for any reason atleast this way you can always keep your fingers finely tuned.
I Wish you all the best and many happy years of flying ahead of you.
Happy Flying
Paul

Thanks Paul for the advice......
Well today was even BETTER!! The weather in Sydney was perfect for flying and today I took full control of my trainer and flew about 10 to 20 circuits!!.. I even took off once... but I left the landing for the more experienced guys... It was a great day for me...
but unfortunately the young bloke that is teaching me crashed his sporty bright yellow CORBY on the last flight... [X(]man did I feel bad for him...[&o]
Now I will just start in saying this guy can fly (aerobatics etc) ... but what happened was he was coming around in a left hand turn onto final... lining up with the runway for the landing... remember this is the last flight of a great day.... a momentary lapse in concentration or a gust of wind.....when all of a sudden the little beautiful CORBY right wing tip stalls and violently banks right wing down and starts heading for the ground and big gum trees. The pilot applied full throttle and full up elevator and for a moment I could see the CORBY dashing through the trees at the end of the runway... but when she didn't come up he knew he was beaten and went to zero throttle...... [:@]we started the long tense walk and found her at the bottom of a tree... the damage was amazingly light. Just the front cowling, a bit of the fire wall, the propeller and a couple of holes in the right wing...
another one of the club blokes said he would help him to fix it all up... so not too bad considering where she went in... this was the first crash i had witnessed and man did I feel sorry for the pilot. He had just spent the entire day instructing me as well..... Oh well I guess this is part of R/C flying hey...
I am just loving this new hobby and I think I may have caught the bug.... is there a doctor in the house?!!!

Bob Hope all is going well,
Yeah it is a bad feeling you get when you know a plane is in trouble and all you can do is stand there and watch it crash to earth but in the end you have no choice but to laugh, if you can't laugh then its the wrong hobby for he/she to be in a crash is bound to happen its just when, lets just hope its YEARS away for you.
I wish i could say ive been out flying but down here in melbourne the wheather has been pritty bad for flying everyday its been around 20-25 knots, with abit of luck this weekend will be a good one but i do think i'll need ALOT of luck hehehe
Happy Flying
