We just took our very first plane to an RC field today. Knowing absolutely nothing about planes or flying, I bought the Alpha Trainer (it sounded like the model for the aeronautically challenged)! If anyone gets this trainer and has trouble attaching the fuselage to the tail section, I suggest taping the screw to the screw driver with electrical tape. It will save you a lot of frustration.
At the airfield, an experienced pilot flew the trainer for us. He (and others) were a bit surprised with the 3 blade prop, but once it was flying remarked that it was very quiet compared to a 2 blade. Engine started and ran with no problems and needed no adjusting (as I believe they took care of that at the factory). There was a screw (connecting to something I can't recall) that needed to be replaced as it was stripped. Also, the tail ailerons (?) needed adjusting (trim buttons on radio were not enough to fix this). The plane was close to climbing out of control.
I'm looking forward to getting back out there, and hopefully getting my hands on the controls soon!
PS: the plane was relatively cheap, but I may have to buy a bigger vehicle to transport. Three people and plane are a bit much for mid-size car.

Look for an oldie-but-goodie mid-size station wagon. They're cheap and perfect for plane hauling.

I think you made a great choice in planes...and secondly, getting someone else to trim it out for you.

Been flying a few times since the first post. Very happy with the Alpha. Broke our first prop after glow plug broke and engine quit on landing. Now I carry a spare. Lots of useful info on these boards, I'm sure I'll learn a lot. Looking forward to "solo" - but not yet!!
