Default question?

Are there any good websites that explain the dangers of this hobby in depth? I have to write a paper on it and i need some well written articles as sources.

Thanks for the help.

This is probably the most informative one. If you search deep enough you can find most anything on here. I can't recall ever running across a site dedicated to RC safety or dangers. Sorry. For the most part, the dangers are pretty self-evident.... appendages stuck into rapidly spinning things with sharp edges; high-speed flying objects losing radio connectivity; catastrophic component failures... things like that. The biggest danger in this pastime is by far the danger to your wallet.

Cheers,
Graham

It's also not particularly good for relationships! Rare is the significant other who supports the hobby.

Too true. Although, I'm still fairly new to it, so my wife still supports me. I'm sure that will change eventually. "Honey, mind if I buy [link=http://www.greathobbies.com/products/productinfo.php?prod_id=GPMA1350]this[/link]?"[sm=thumbup.gif]

Well then, I do have the "rare" wife!!! She supports me 110% in this hobby. She knows that I keep in mind the budget before I make any hobby purchases, and that I will always discuss them with her before I buy anything in the hobby. In return every now and then she'll hand me a check for a few hundred dollars and say "go buy yourself something".

One of the biggest reasons she does support me so much is because she can see how much of a "stress relief" this hobby is. She can see what a good mood I'm in when I come home from the field, or even just sitting at my building board she knows how good it is for me.

Yes, I am lucky. And no, she doesn't have any sisters!!!!!!!!!!!!

The biggest danger is that there are too many people in it (the hobby) that have no common sense and no attention for detail. That's really gonna ruffle some feathers, but that's what I see.

Alan, your significant other must be gorgeous. Even your plane has a heart on.

A dangerous hazzard you may experience is the nervous trembling after the maiden flight of your TF P-47. Mine was a very successful flight and the nervousness did not seem to actuate my pacemaker-difillibrater. I even calmed down enough so I could drive home awhile afterwards. Love thii hobby!

I suggest you read through the Safety Rules, at modelaircraft.org.

There are probably club websites with Saftey Rules posted. Some are right here on RCU.

Every kit or ARF I've seen has a set of directions included, and every one mentions safety procedures. Some directions can be downloaded. For that I suggest you try the Top Flite or Great Planes site.

Good luck,
Dave Olson
