Hi:
I bought a used Radio Futaba Conquest 4NBF 4 Channel radio 72Mhz, a Futaba buddy box and a trainer cord, for the purpose of training. BTW, channel is 26, without servo and receiver.
My friend has a 72 Mhz 4 channel trainner plane without buddy box and trainer cord at channel 51.
Can I plug in his crystal of channel 51 into my transimitter in order to use my transimitter and the buddy box? I believe his plane receiver can receive from my transimitter since they are same brand crystal with same set frequency.
Could anyone please advise?
Thanks!

zliu,
I'm not going to tell you all the reasons not to do that. There are many. Others may.
The best solution is to put a channel 26 receiver in your friend's plane.
His receiver can receive from your transmitter, given matching crystals. All other manufacturers tune the receivers to the middle of the band, channel 35 or 36. Futaba, in the belif that you will have better reception, tunes some to channel 47 (middle of the high half of the band) and channel 23 (middle of the low half of the band), If you plug a channel 26 crystal into a Futaba High Band receiver, you will have about ther same degree of tuning as if you plugged another brand's channel 60 or 11 crystal into that same brand's receiver.
Don't change the transmitter crystal. Changing the receiver crystal is a better idea.

No, violates FCC regs. The user cannot change TX freq in the US on the 72MHz band. HOWEVER, you can probably put a CH26 RX XTAL in his receiver without a problem assuming his RX is compatible with your TX. That way you can use your TX and BB on CH26 with his plane. I'm assuming you are asking this becasue there is a compaitbility issue hooking your BB up to his TX? You didn't mention the make/model of your buddies radio. Anyway, whenever you change RX or XTAls in a RX, always be sure to range check.
Edit... Mr. Foamie beat me to it by 90 seconds... ditto... what he said.

Thank you Guys!
Both your advice help me decide.
I think I am going just change the receiver crystal to 26 on his plane.
Then I can use my TX and my buddy box to be trained on his plane.

If your buddy has a Futaba transmitter, why not use it as the master and not have to change anything?

The buddy (trainee) transmitter doesn't use the RF deck of it's radio, only the controls/encoder. I've got an old Futaba gold TX that I use for training, it doesn't have an RF module OR batteries in the back...it just supplies the sticks and encoder when I pull the switch to "give it to the student".
Does that make more sense?

zliu,
Please jump back in here and give us info about your buddy's transmitter. I ass-u-me-d that it could not be buddy-boxed. carrellh has the easiest solution to your problem, if that transmitter has a buddy cord jack.

here the rx info from futaba you can change the crystal in the rx within the upper and lower channels but you have to send the tx to them if it doesn't have a module
How do I change the frequency on my receiver?
Futaba 72MHz receivers are all center tuned within 1/2 or the other 1/2 of the frequency band. So, if you have a receiver on any channel within 11-35 (72.010 through 72.490), you can purchase a receiver crystal and change it to any other channel within 11-35. If you have a receiver on any channel within 36-60 (72.510 through 72.990), you can change the crystal and use it on any other channel within 38-60. However, ALWAYS perform a full range check prior to utilizing the equipment. If you have any doubts about its performance, it is always best to send it for service and let us match your transmitter (if your Tx has a module, only that needs to be sent) and receiver for maximum performance
Futaba 27MHz, 50MHz, and 75MHz are all center tuned to that particular band. Therefore, any 27MHz receiver on any channel can be changed to any other channel WITHIN THE 27MHz band, and same is true of 50 and 75 MHz bands.

Mr. Foamie/carrell:
His plane's TX doesn't have trainer port, nor buddy box. That's why I way trying to figure out a way use mine.
skiman762:
Very good point, I will keep it in mind!
Thanks for all your input!
