ORIGINAL: Fandain

Ok I think as I do not plan on crashing this plane and also want it to hold some time, I'll buy the OS 46 AX.
Well, none of us plan on crashing 'em!!!

All planes have an expiration date. When they hit that date they are gonna crash and there's not much that we can do about it!!!! [X(]

Very true!
No what I meant was as I'm a beginner and this is a plane that can teach you a lot of stuff I want to give it some good equipment to make it work, so I can concentrate on fly, that also the reason why i want to buy a good Radio and not use my beginner one (which is ok, but I want a better one)

Oh, I know. I was just funnin' around. But an OS motor is a good investment. I've got a couple of 46 FX's that have 600+ flights on them, and they still are great pulling motors.

I just looked in your gallery and one the picture, where you show 3 of your planes, I like the very right one a lot, did you built it from a kit?

All 3 planes in that picture are all kit built. From right to left they are a Sig Hog Bipe (with an OS 91 Surpass 4-stroke), a Balsa USA Thunderbug (with an OS 46 FX), and on the left is a Great Planes Slow Poke (with an OS 52 Surpass 4-stroke). Unfortunately the Thunderbug died an ugly death earlier this spring. It had a mid-air collision with a helicopter, which was pretty spectacular. The Slow Poke has about 200 flights in just a little over a year. And the Hog Bipe has about 120 flights in about a year too.

I'm a bit of the odd man out. I fly nothing but Airtronics. I have 3 Airtronics computer radios (A RD 6000, a Quasar, and a Radiant) and 6 or 7 Vanguard 6 channel radios. I've been using them for 10 years now and I'll never fly anything else.

Fandain,
The answer to that would be a yes, and a no. No, you can get any channel you want to buy. Yes, you don't want to be on the same channels as a lot of other pilots at your flying field. The best thing to do is contact your club and see if they maintain a list of members and what channels they are on. If so then buy a radio on channel with little or no use. The club can be important too because some fields have channels that have interference on them, so you don't want to buy that channel. If they don't maintain a list just make trip to the field and watch the frequency board and make notes on what channels aren't used much. This is important because you don't want to have to sit and wait for your channel to clear before you can fly.

Hope this helps

Hey guys I ordered the Tiger 2 and the stuff on Friday and was happy to get it and start building, but now I red this article:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_576777/tm.htm [X(]

so can anyone confirm this?
Is this just the case in the ARF version?

never had a problem with any of the many I've had that i built from a kit and they all had 45/46 sized engines.

i have deliberately made one tail heavy (testing flight characteristics) to the point it only sat on the nose wheel if the engine was running and it still flew great.

tigers have a very long tail moment, the ARF must use some pretty dense balsa for the tail feathers making it heavier but as i mentioned earlier i have had one that was so tail heavy it sat on the tail unless the engine was running and it still flew great.

In another article some guy said the quality of the wood would be miserable, would you confirm that?

I heard just good things about Carl goldberg, so I would think this was just a onetime thing.

Yeah, I also heard just good stuff about Carl Goldberg.

Man I'm so excited to start building the thing

I will probably make mine like this:

except the tiger in it

i like that color scheme, should show up real good in the air. one recommendation i would suggest is to secure the canopy with Monokote rather then screws or a glue. the tiger was one plane i had problems keeping the canopy on otherwise.

Ok, thanks!

I have another question, what is the difference between PCM and FM Radios?

Is it just that PCM servos are heavier and PCM has better radio wave quality?
Is the invertstion worth it?

they deal with interference in different ways, PPM (FM) processes TX signal even while interference is causing undesirable output from the RX. PCM will go into fail safe and 'Hold' the servos blocking out the interference and the TX (you have no control at all what so ever for a set amount of time)

PCM in my experience (as always YMMV) is far superior to blocking out interference that would cause less then desirable results in a PPM RX. i fly PCM only in all my high $$$ plans/jets and all seven of my helis, i even use PCM for cars because of it's fail safe features.

the servos are one and the same for PPM or PCM, there are however a few that will not work with a PPM receiver, the JR 8700G being one which I've got several of, they'll only work with a PCM RX
