I recently acquired an LT-40 that was lawn-darted. I have repaired everything except the mains. There are no pictures/instructions other than how to attach them, so I would appreciate it if you could reply with suggestions. For example, what's the best wood to use, how do you align the gear wires so the toe-in is right, etc...
Thanks in advance!

Install a plywood plate, about 1/4" thick, in the bottom of the fuselage and replace the wire gear with sheet AL. Use 4 10-32 nylon bolts to attach it. Thread the plywood, soak the threads with thin CA and re-tap. They'll never pull out. It'll be more sturdy but will still give a little bounce.

I second the use of prebent aluminum landing gear to replace the bent wire gear on the LT-40. I replaced mine and can't believe the difference in ground handling.
