Hello FF, and welcome; I would consult your local club and see what they consider a good trainer. I instruct at our field and know that every instructor has their own idea about what is the "perfect" trainer. We like the Sig LT 40, or the Sig Kadet, or senorita, but most of the trainer ARF's are pretty good these days. Our club has a "club trainer" that is available for new flyers, it is a Sig kadet senior. We used to have a great planes PT 40 before that, for 5 or 6 years.

Any .40 -.46 size glow Trainer will do the job for you. Good to hear that you are using a club & Instructor. Just look at the Trainers available & pick the one you like the best. They are really all pretty much the same. I forget the name of the Canadian website that is the equivelant of Tower Hobbies but there is one & I'm sure after some of our Canadian friends see this they will post the name of the site for you. Good luck in your training.

There is a link to Tower Hobbies Trainers in the 20 -50 size range that you can look at. There are also some nice 60 size Trainers available too if you're interested in something a little larger & easier to see.

Your local club will also advise you as to what radios and frequencies will fit in well in your area as I'm sure the freq's are different in Canada. Get ahold of donkey doctor or britbrat as they are both from Canada and should also be able to give good advise and the name of Canadian mail-order if you need/want to use them. You can use the PM function to contact them more directly/personally if needed.

If you have a little extra money and you're good at mechanical inclination (you can put something together), get a Sig .40 sized Rascal. It floats on take-off's, floats in on landings, and allows for progression once you get the hang of it.

If you have a little extra cash I would look at the Hanger 9 Alpha 60. My 13 year-old son and I successfully learned to fly on it. The quality seems pretty good; it absorbed some rough landings. I think we both enjoyed the extra visibility and tolerance to wind that came with the larger size.

The best canadian website is [link]http://www.greathobbies.com[/link] The prices are somewhat better than tower hobbies and you'll have your shipment alot quicker, I use them all the time good company. Just go have a little chat with your club and see what they suggest, you have already made the best decision in getting an instructor. If there's any plane combo I would suggest its a sig LT-40 with an OS 46 ax an a 6-channel radio of your choice.
