Hi All,
If anyone could give me an idea as to whether the following setup would be suitable for a beginner and whether the prices are fair. I have a keen interest in building a rc aircraft (have build hand launch glider before) - not interested in ARF.
PRICES ARE IN AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS
Sig Kadet Senior 40 Trainer $175.00
OS 46 AX $175.00
Futaba 6EXA 4xs3004 servo, 7ch RX, Nicads & charger $386.75 (Want a 6 CH for later on)
ACCESSORIES
Model Engines Glow Starter w/ AC/DC Charger $24.03
Prolux 60120 Heavy Duty Starter $41.93
If there is anything else (other than the building tools, glues, boards etc) that you feel i would need at this stage then please also let me know.
Regards and thanks!

The radio seems a bit high.I know I live in the states but still.I paid at the lhs 144.00 for the Futaba 6EXA with 4 servos and reciever and charger. You'll love the Kadet! And the OS AX is very reliable.

I have to agree with Banjoairplane. The radio seems high. Based on US prices, you can get a Tracker III ( http://www.polkshobby.com/ ) with receiver and 1 servo for about $200 (8 channel fully synthesized tx AND rx ), add in 3 additional servos @ $10 each gives a total of $230 US. I know Polk's will ship internationally. Check the radio out. I have the Tracker II and really like the radio - I use it exclusively. My Futaba 6XAS is just gathering dust.
The 46 AX is an excellent engine and the SIG Kadet is also an excellent plane.

It is impossible to compare prices in the US against prices in Australia. Hopefully, some of the Australian modellers will pick up on your post and advise you on whether or not those are reasonable prices. Good luck.
I would also suggest you post a separate question about the engine in the glow engine section and once you have have response from Australians there broaden the thread to include your other questions.

Current exchange rate is:
1.00 USD United States Dollars = 1.33138 AUD Australia Dollars
Therefore the $386.75 AUD radio is costing $290.50 USD
That radio system sells for $180 USD here or $240 AUD
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=LXHYK7**&P=ML but I realize things may cost more there. This does seem rather high though. You also said 6EXA and not 6EXAS which is an improved version (I believe).
The setup is suitable for a beginner and the radio would also be good in future planes. The price? Well that's for you to decide because most of us don't know Australian prices.
At any rate, I hope you find an equitable solution and join us in this hobby.

When I was in Australia I found their prices to be noticably higher than ours. [

Thanks for all the replies.
That price for that radio is pretty much average across the different LHS's that i have visited. Approx. $400 AUD for a 6ch computer radio. The list of features is a little daunting - it seems each radio has that little extra that the other does not, however i assume that all the basic functions would be common to all radios (mixes, switches for the ch's etc). I liked this one though because it has the differential dial for the flaps - good idea.
Thanks to everyone!

G'day Mate,
Check the Col Taylor ads in Airbourne or on the net at www.coltaylormodels.com.au
The price for the plane & radio seem OK, I use JR, but that is only a personal preference, the Futaba is a good radio, but the OS 46AX is $149.00 at Col Taylor or Roj's Hobbies in Victoria, & you will not find a sweeter running engine than the 46AX. We run a few of em here & use 10% nitro fuel, Coolpwer oil, no Caster oil, a Taipan green idle bar plug & after run in, an APC 12x6 prop, perfect for a trainer.
I find the Magnum geared starter is the best as it will start anything from the smallest to a 160 FX.
If you need any more info send me a PM or Email.
