Hey,
I'm going to overhaul my OS 46AX, but have never overhauled an glow engine before. Im just wondering if there are any sites with step-by-step instuctions.
Also, how can i make it cheaper to overhaul it. I was told that you can just buy the bearings and o-rings from a bearing/o-ring manufacturing company, instead of the OS brand spare parts.
Any suggestions would be great help,
Cheers

G'day Mate,
I have replaced the bearings in an AX twice, the first set I got was from Hawthorn Hobbies in your neck of the woods, Melbourne, they did'nt last long & cost me $54.00 for the set, $50.00 for the bearings + postage, so I got a stainless steel set from Boca Bearings in Florida, the cost me $56.00 delivered to my door in NSW, in 7 days, & they are great, & no worries about RUST. Be careful which bearings you get, if you can get the right ones from a bearing shop, because they have to have a speed rating & tolerance to match your very powerful motor. Also you can check out the bearing size at the Boca bearing web site. www.bocabearings.com

RC Engine Stainless Steel Bearing Kit, Rated Stainless Shield front, Open Rear, Standard Replacements
OS ENGINES ABC-P RC 46 #ENK-001RS-ST 2 $33.95

G'day Daniel,
The last bearing I bought as a spare for another AX we have, it still has the original bearings in it, was the SMR6902ZZ rear bearing & you could get a SR6ZZ front as well, but generally the front bearing will be OK, so I only bought the rear bearing, it comes with the shields intact & you need to remove them, but there is a fully detailed explaination of how to do this on the Boca bearings web site. If ya need any more help don't hesitate to Email me, [email protected]

Hey again,
I just disassembled as much of the motor as i could, and noticed that the rear bearing has a fair bit of corrosion. It seems to spin ok. Crankshaft and connecting rod are both corrored but will be easy to clean up.
I have only used this engine for about 40 flights. When i got it, I used it for about 10 flights and then used not interested into rc. I only got back into glow about 2 weeks ago, after letting the engine sit for about 2 years. When i run it, it sounds wierd, and everyone one at my club doesnt know why. So i decided to overhaul it.
Cheers

Hey,
I just looked at the website. Are the bearings any good? Should i get the stainless steel racers? Is it worth the extra money?
Cheers

G'day Mate,
Stainless steel bearings are definately worth getting, & to get em into Australia is a very small amount more than the standard steel one's from Hawthorn Hobbies. About $2.00 more.
