hello.
Winter is quickly apporoching and so is my seckond model. see winter here in canada ingeneral means no flying (very very cold and windy) soo... i think im going to slowly build a plane so its ready for spring.
My dad wants to get some building expereince so it HAS to be an ARF. (he would like to build them but not fly them). So id like somthing that is sold for those hardlandingd not to. im looking at somthing in the 60 inch wingspane area (a little less or ormore wont matter) id like it to be somwhat aerobatic. so maybe a Super sportster? a fourstare?
any ideas suggestions i know im asking alot from a second plane but im sure youl be able to come up with somthing.

The chart is good but only shows planes from the Great Planes brand. Some good choices from other brands would be the Pulse XT 40 ARF from Hangar 9, a Tiger 2 from Carl Goldberg, a T34, Rambler, or Super Sports from World Models are all good planes and nice flyers. I would opt for the Tiger 2. It is set up for trike gear until you get used to the plane and then you can convert it to a tail dragger. Or just make it a tail dragger to start with. [8D]

Good second planes:
-Most any stik (GP Big Stik or Easy Sport, Hangar 9 Super Stik/Ultra Stik, TT Tiger Stick) except Goldberg Hot Stik/Wild Stik - too aerobatic
-Low wing sport planes like the Goldberg Tiger 2, Sig Four Star, World Models Sky Raider Mach II, Hangar 9 Pulse XT, Seagull SpaceWalker II
-Semiscale trainers like AT-6 Texan, PC-9, T-34 Mentor
If your dad is ready to tackle a long building project, there are some nice kit-only choices out there like the Sig Mid Star and the GP Rapture 40.

If you turn the rates down on the Goldberg Hot Stik is flies very well for a beginner. My girlfriend had 4 flights on a 40 sized trainer when she started flying my Hot Stik and she actually had an easier time learning with it.

Get a SIG Four Star 60. I got one for my second airplane and now won't even get rid of it since I've moved on to other airplanes. It just flies too good. Here's the skinny:
1. Will fly slow like a trainer. You can even do harriers with it.
2. Absolutely no bad habits.
3. Set the controls up aggressively and it will do every manuever in the book including a few 3 d manuevers. You have to move the CG back a little but it's still really stable.
4. Lands super easy.
5. Looks good {get the red}.
I would suggest putting a .90 motor on it if you want to get aggressive later.
I've moved on to much more expensive airplanes, but I still keep mine cause it's just so much fun to fly and a "no worries" airplane...
