Default Better way to tighten the prop?

Hi Gang,
I flew today and I had tried and turned the nut just about 1/4 turn.
I had that thing super tight.
On another post someone said you should see the washer sink into the wood hub a bit and thats tight.
How can you get a very tight prop nut without breaking the prop while holding it?
I guess i'll go with 4-5 pounds of tourque and a nylon lock nut unless someone has a better idea.
Open for suggestions

The prop will be a lot stronger than you think. I have never had a prop come to pieces in my hand while tightening, and I have never had one come loose on me either. If you have had a prop snap in your hand, I would say it was a bad prop. Just stick with the factory nut and tighten away.

With standard wrenches I have never broke a prop, but I tighten them as tight as I can get the nut, been many years since I've had one come loose.

I replace the prop washer with a Higley aluminum prop lock, followed by a prop nut. Added safety and peace of mind............

Thanks Guys,
Thanks for the info.
I was thinking of rajuls' trick and use a double nut.
Hummm Think that wil affect the balance at 19,000?

I tighten it enough so that, if I do not use a towel to hold the prop, it will cut my fingers!

WHEW!!! BLOOD ON THE PROP.
Thats what I call tight
I'm making a list here and ordered 6 props for $9.95.
My list is getting long and thats fine but at the bottom where it says TOTAL makes me double check and see what I can do without

Default Within reason!

2 strokes-as tight as you can, don't sweat it.

4 strokes-as tight as you can, use a second locking nut, don't sweat it.

Oh yeah, if you use a wood prop, check it once in awhile, as wood compresses with time, and the nut will "loosen". Use the proper washer.

.Hi jettstarblue,
I have to rate this topic because there have been a lot of feed back.
I flew last week and that nut was super tight.
Today I was able to give it a 1/4 turn.
So your right about the hub getting compressed.
I made a list for TH and I also ordered 6 props along with the balancer.
But that block at the bottom of the list that says TOTAL
But like John Wayne once said.
A Man gotta do what a Man gotta do so I gotta order all them goodies
