From: Midlothian, VA,
I started out with the Hangar 9 Solo Series trainer (stars and stripes) also. It flew just like most trainer airplanes fly. Very steady and it would float in for the landing just like most other trainers. (I personally don't like planes that float so much because I find them much more difficult to land than non floater sport planes.) The only thing that I did not like about this plane was the wire main landing gear and the small tires. Not hard to fix, but I found it hard to get through the grass because of this. One more thing, if you are going to put two slots in the fuse for the switch and a charging jack, make sure you put both of them on the side without the exhaust. On mine, there was a hole drilled on both sides, and I made the mistake of putting the charging jack on the exhaust. Hope some of this helps.

Check out this page http://www.modelairplanenews.com/rev...olo_strike.asp It is a pretty good review of the Solo trainer. I have the camo version. (not a good idea) I also changed the landing gear to composite mains. The wire bend too easy.

Is this the one that is done in the CAMO pattern. If it is I would think it was not a very good idea to cover a plane in a pattern that is difficult to see. One of the problems a novice has is orientation. And I always suggest colors that are easy to see.
It might look neat on the ground in this color but in the air it disappears. I did a Cub in Camo BIG mistake.

I have a ton of experience with these. I won one 2 years ago and made it the club trainer. I have been instructing hard with it for all this time. Mine is the Solo Sport which is blue and yellow with some checkers. It shows up great in the air.
People have flown it an love it. There is now 4 Solo Sports flying at our club. They fly better than most trainers on the market, but there is a few things that need some attention. Here is my recommendations:
1. The landing gear wires are JUNK :thumbdown . Go to your LHS and get the Fults nosegear No. RF400. Follow the instructions and mount in place of the Solo nosegear. The Solo wire that they make gear out of is the softest steel I've ever seen for that use. After straightening it several times it will be so soft that it will bend even on a greaser landing. Also at your LHS get the Great Planes L4 main gear. Screw this onto you maingear mounting block with 4 screws. I used a pretty good sized aluminum screw purchased at my local hardware store.
2. I just spent a weekend sealing all the edges of the covering with clear ultracote. I used 1/2 inch wide strips. May be your plane won't get as hard of use as mine, but everywhere that there was lots of oil exposure the covering was coming up. I would use an exhaust deflector. With a moto tool and a small mounted point, grind a shallow groove around the end of your muffler exit point. Then fill this in with a bead of JB weld. Let that dry for 24 hours. Then put your deflector on. It will never fall off this way.
3. This is some stuff that I did, but may not be necessary for everyone. I strengthened my firewall with some epoxy and a long brush. Also beef the main landing gear block this way. I made a little cut in the center wing rib right in front of the trailing edge. When I joined my wing I made a little spar out of 1/8 ply and glued it in there when I joined the wings.
They are great flyers. Don't be suprised when your wheels squeel like pigs
All 4 at our club have done this. Sometimes its louder than your motor. I can only say that it is the kind of plastic used for the wheel hub. I have put regular rubber wheels on mine, but the foam ones work fine except fot the sound. Enjoy, and feel free to send me a PM if you have any more questions.
