Nitro is faster, once you get to a scale 100 miles per hour mph it doesnt really matter but gas is almost always heavier so nitro gets to speed faster.....an .049 glow(nitro) engine can go 100 mph ,,,there is no such animal in gasoline form...unless you keep a battery on a glow element then you can burn oil and gas mix in a glow engine...Rog

well obviously there are limits..there arent any 150cc glow engines, just as there arent any .049 gas engines but in the few comparable sizes...glow is faster as far as I know...Rog..of course even then the breakdown would be octane versus nitro I suppose...

I am not real sure if Raad was refering to scale speed or actual speed.
That said, speed is more a function of the entire package not just the engine or for that matter wing location.
The real question should be "What airplane is fastest" then you decide on glow or gas based on the scale size you build.

actual speed .. zenoah engines is just another engine in Rc airplanes ?or is it as big as it is in boats ??.. and does the wing posiotion affect the speed of the plane ?

any gas trainers ??

In a way there is. The Zenoah G20 is a 60 size gas engine.
I am not sure but I bet it would work on a 60 size trainer.

Since you can't get nitro fuel perhaps, if you can afford it, this could be a way to go.

If you want to go fast, get a turbine. RC jets are not very popular in CA because of the risk of brush fires, but I have seen them fly and I doubt there is anything faster in the RC world.

BTW, why is speed so important? I would much rather watch (and fly for that matter) precise, controlled flight. You can only go fast for a short time before you must turn around and come back. Seems like a waste to me.

al salam alaikum ,

well speed for some is everything..there are air races ?? there are drag races .. there is daytona.. ppl love speed .. i was just woundering , having spent some time in the boat forums i got to know the zenoah and sikk engines.. the jet engines are cool .. i would like to have one .. i dont know anyone who would not , the sound they make and the speed they fly at .. but they coast too much $4000 avg.

i was thinking of gas to be the next step .. for gas is available in any gasoline staition .nitro gas is not very popular around here and gasoline is cheapest ! its just another subject to talk about,no?!

I'm not familiar with Zenoah but I would assume that G20 would be for a 20cc engine where as a .61 engine is 10cc...Rog

Yes indeed, it is a 20cc engine. With battery powered electronic ignition, it doesn't have the weight of a flywheel magneto so it's pretty light for a gasser. Still, the only .60 size plane that I would consider it in is one that needs a lot of nose weight to balance. Someone at our field flys one and he's pretty happy with it so far.

Lets go back to Raads specific situation,
He lives in Egypt and has stated that he cannot get nitro fuel where he lives.
That is part of the reason he was asking about gas trainers.
I mentioned the G20 as a possible option on a 60 size trainer, Yes it is a heavy engine but alot of trainers (at least most of the ones I have worked with) have needed some amount of nose weight to get a good balance. By the same token, a large trainer doesn't mind a little extra weight.
The G20 is advertised as an engine for 60 size planes, I don't know of any other gassers that small or any trainers large enough for bigger gas engines.
His only other option, unless he finds a source for glow fuel, is electric.
