RX questions

Hi.
I have a 4 channel electric trainer plane with a futaba skysport radio system. I want to take all the radio stuff out and put it in my gas trainer. The Rx is small and has 4 plugs the 1, 2, and 3 channels but the forth is the speed control with the battery eliminator deal. Is it possible to use a y-harness on the throttle servo so that one side goes to the servo and the other side goes to the reciver pack? If not any suggestions on the type of Rx I could buy to do the job?

You can use a Y harness to power the RX on any channel. The positive and negative terminals are common across all 4 channels.
PS: channel 3 is throttle on Futaba.

You Said You Have A Small Receiver.Is The Radio For Electrics?The Receiver For Nitro Ships Should Be Around 1"x2" It Could Be A R127DF.Just Make Sure It Is Full Power Receiver.

ok -- I get the power issue now -- that makes sense. I thought it said channel 4 was the throttle but I could be wrong. It is the last in the row anyway.
I know the radio came with the plane it is in. Hobbico superstar EP. I have no idea what model # the Rx is. Would it really matter? All it does is control 4 small electric motors right? I don't see why the reciver would care if those motors were moving control rods on an electric plane or gas plane. But hey that is why I am asking. I am pretty new to airplanes. I know that a reciver has no preference in car or truck gas or electric.

The receiver should have a label with the model number. The most common 4 channel receivers sold with the Skysport are R114F and R124F.
Neither is recommended for a fuel powered plane because their range is only about 650 feet. The range issue isn't usually a problem with cars and boats.
If the receiver is not one of these, can you post all info from all of the labels and stickers?

If your receiver is a short range micro receiver, a super deal is the Hobbico 8 channel unit. It is 49.99 with the crystal. You just order it on the same channel as your existing transmitter

If you have a receiver for electrics, and the short range issue, you'll have to get another receiver for nitro. Since you're flying a 4 channel TX, a one of the least expensive receivers to get is the Berg Micro Stamp 4 channel. It's a full range receiver and will work fine standard size J-plugs. Best of all it's about $30.00 + $7.00 or so for the chrystal through Tower.

ok -- so dropping this unit in my gas plane is a no-no! I don't have it with me or I would post exactly what it is. It does look like carrell's pic though -- the one on the right.
I have been thinking about getting another radio system anyway. I'll probably do just that. I just like it when I can make what I already have work. I am pretty sure that electric trainer will start collecting dust If I have a gas plane to fly instead.
