I really wanted a dirt bike, used to ride allot when I was younger, because my buddy's all got them a few years ago 7,000 MLCrisis I guess, not like I don't get enough adrenalin in my life, until all my buddy's started turning up with broken this, and blown out that's, I said to my self I sure did like building and flying those planes and I still have not caught up with some of the $$ they have spent on bikes and surgery, I am feeling pretty good

i know... something in the IT ways would suite me, ive been tinkerig with old PC's since i was 9 so i know my way around computers fairly well... either that or an architectural career, ive always been good at drawing things... ive got 6 notepads full of technical drawings for planes, boats, cars, machinery e.t.c
but anyway... when you said expensive toys, were you refering to the women or the planes?

Adding the cost = less aggressive flying = not as much fun.
If I saw a dollar sign rolling down the runway for a takeoff, I would have a few nice hangar queens.

Then you'll need to do what my dad told me to do. If you want to play with expensive toys then you'd better find a good job to pay for them with!!!
Oh my, I'm gonna get slammed for that one

Quite honestly. I prefer not to think about it.
An interesting side note however.... I wish everyone that posted would have stated whether the were married or single

You know, we've been talking about our toys, how about posting pics of them, I know I did a page or so back, but here is the one I am speaking of right now and a really nice Sukhoi

Ice, I’ve been playing with planes for about 5 years. I guess I’ve spent between $2000 and $3000 total; possibly more. The amount per year has varied quite a bit.
My job is ‘payroll supervisor’ at a large manufacturing company. My annual salary is a little more than half of Missleman’s number.
I am single, which means I get to decide how to spend the money. It also means there is only one income to cover all expenses. My house payment, and associated expenses, is the same as my neighbors’ but they have two incomes. So, being single has financial advantages and disadvantages.
After high school I got into hot rod cars. My best friend and I built a drag race car. That cost about $30,000 and I eventually sold the car for $7,500. A few years later I bought a 1972 Camaro show car for a pile of $$. I dumped thousands more into it and rarely drove it because it was so hard to keep it show quality if dirt got on it. I sold that a couple of years after I got my first plane.
My taste in planes is pretty much a 60 size plane with a .91 four stroke engine, or a 40 size plane with a .70 four stroke.
The typical cost of my planes is
Airframe, $100 to $300.
Engine, $175 to $250
Flight pack, $100 to $150
After the race car and show car experience, RC plane prices seem almost reasonable.

I am a RC addict. I go to RCA " Radio Control Anonymous".
I spend way more than I should and I know it, $2000.00 doesn't cover it. My father once told me that the man that dies with the most toys is a winner. Now my wife does not agree with my father, but he has passed on so she hasn't got anyone to tell he was wrong. I am semi-retired and buy and sell apartment complexes. In between selling and buying we live off the rental income. I do the maint. and she does the books. When we sell is when we make a large amount. This is my RC money and her spending money after we put the down payment on another complex. I have almost every day to build or fly. I can't stop myself and I quit feeling guilty. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I soloed 11 months ago and I can say with confidence that I have spent over $10,000 on planes, servos, equipment and club memberships. I fly every day and.....I CAN STOP ANY TIME I WANT!!

Don't fret, you'll get over it soon and realize that you were only fooling yourself, then you'll accept you sitituation and spend even more money

Don't fight it, it's hopeless to try to.

Theres a model of a Sukoi 27 at a model shop in the UAE. About 6-8 Feet long. Twin jet engines.
Price $23,000USD. Not sure if that includes radio gear or just the model.
Apparently they do sell them occasionally.
That would blow 10 years budget for some people on one model.
