I have purchaced a 27% extra 260, and a DA50. I have to TX's 1, is a Futaba 6exap and 2, is a Futaba 8u. First of all is the 8U too old of a radio for me to be using? or will my 6exap work fine being that it is my newest radio? Any help will be good

Either of those will be fine. The 8U will give you more options in terms of flexibility and programing, but either will work. My father is still flying on an 8UAPS that he bought in the late 90s. Great radio. My only warning is that if it hasn't been service by Futaba recently you might want to have it checked out. The 8U series has an internal memory battery that needs to be replaced at the factory about every five years. If not, it can cause you terrible headache from programing errors, memory loss, and malfunction.

No and yes. The 6exa is a good radio and will serve well in that plane. The 8U is also a good radio, provided it's still in good condition. The 8U has more options and bells and whistles, but you really need all that? It's your choice.

Send me the one you don't use.

When I bought one about year ago for $100, I thought I got a STEAL! $150 is not a unreasonable price, provided its in good condition.

That's something only you can say. I have a 7UAFS and love it. It does all I need it to do and feels good in my hands. If yours feels good to you and fullfills your needs, you did good IMO. Could you have gotten more bells and whistles for the money? Perhaps, but would you have been as happy with it? I'd just enjoy what you have until you NEED more.

With a spark ignition motor a 6EXAP PCM radio may be the better choice if the 8U is not PCM.

I have the T9CAP (not S, the first production run) and I love it. It is easier to program, and has a few more functions than the 8U series. That being said, if the 8U is in good condition I would use it unless you are one of those who must have the latest greatest to keep up with the pilot on the other end of the pits.

The 8U can transmit PCM or PPM (FM) to any Futaba RX that the 6EXA can.

Hi Bruce,

I have a '93 vintage 7UAFS that is still going strong. I recently demoted it, however, to buddy box duty because I got a new Hitec tx. I needed something to use for training my daughters and used that as an excuse for a new computer radio.

Long live the UAFS!

Mine is either late 80's or early 90's. Don't really remember. It has never missed a beat with exception of a couple of broken toggle switches (my fault).

The UAF will live forever! It's arguably the best bang for the buck Futaba has ever offered. I sold two back in the 80s, and I've been kicking myself ever since.
