OK, some data.

I had charged it Monday morning and went flying where I accumulated 30 minutes. This afternoon just for fun I turned it on and the radio was at 3:28 when the alarm went off. I use a regular module not the power hungry tunable one.

The discharge rate must be less than 300. It must be 200 or so.

I think the point of my original post was to indicate to the original poster that indeed he does have a problem as other such radios do much better than the 28 minutes he was suffering with.

Maybe I'll slap that tunable module in and try it. That thing gets outright hot so I suspect it burns a lot of juice.

I would not recommend a peak charger for the formation charge. Use the wall wart. Even on the big packs, just do hte numbers.

Red may disagree but I have seen that 1/10 fromation charge is a "fastest" recommended number. I have had very good luck doing formation charges at lower rates for longer periods. I formed a set of 1100 MAh NiMh cells at 50 MAH for 30 hours, discharge to .9V/cell, then another 30 hours. Those packs are working very nicely and take a full charge on the peak charger at 200 MAh charge rate on my Triton.
Can't disagree with facts. 50 mA wallwart (usually 60 mA for most of the charge) fits in the recommended C/20 minimum. I suspect that even a bit lower would do the formation charge. Low rate peak charging still leaves one with some cells that may not have reached their peak and are undercharged just a bit.

Make sure your antenna is extended or atleast 1 section is while its sitting there or it will get VERY hot.
