Default First Experience SkyFly

Ok... So I am browsing youtube and looking at videos and I come across videos of RC Jets. I was blown away! I started building an RC plane more than 6 years ago and never finished it. Today I said, "I'm getting one today, Period". So I did at 5PM (the store was closed but the guy let me in anyway ). I said I was looking for something easy to fly, nice easy learning curve not too pricey. He takes me straight to the SKY FLY. I take it home and assemble it, by the time I'm done it's dark. I couldn't wait 830 PM I had to give it a test flight. I started out by giving it 3/4 throttle and a gentle throw and coasting it back down. Eventually I gave it a little more. I finally launch it at full throttle and it takes off veering slightly to the left. I try to turn it to the right I end up making it pull up too fast, followed by overcompensating in a downward direction..... We can all see where this is going. It went and hit a tree and broke the wing.

The area I was trying it at was about the size of 2 1/2 soccer fields. Not incredibly huge ( it seemed bigger until that thing starts hauling out ). Should I find a place that's bigger? Or do you think that is enough room. Obviously no more night flying .

Anyway It was a great experience, heart pounding etc... I can't wait until tomorrow. I will surely be back with better news.

I got anxious. And guess what I did.. 12AM flying once again. My wing was broken but I slid 3 popsicle sticks into the foam and slid them back together with some adhesive sealing the whole deal with a tiny bit of electric tape. Took it out and just ran it back and forth across the field, no crazy maneuvers just lifted it off cross field and set it down gently.

I accidently did the whole panic thing again. Mistaking the throttle for the elevators and instead of descending it took off faster toward the houses. A tree's leaves stopped it that time and didn't do much damage at all.

I can't stop thinking about it. It's like christmas not being able to sleep.

RE: " Mistaking the throttle for the elevators and instead of descending it took off faster toward the houses."< its when a plane hits a house, or worse yet, an innocent bystander that gives the hobby a bad name and makes it difficult to keep flying clubs within city limits. There is a reason that flying clubs offer training for free. They want their members to know what they are doing and how to fly in a safe manner! If you are really interested in this hobby, please find a flying club and go visit them or at least go fly where there are no houses in sight! [>:]

First, congrats on your fist flying experience.

Your flying space is a bit small but may be workable

Fly when it is light out PLEASE!

Gain altitude - Height is your friend.

Sounds like a flight simulator might be a good invstment for you if you are going to be running into houses and such. You are flying in an very unsafe manner and that is not good for anyone.

New wings are CHEAP. Get a new wing!
