Default Building a field box

Purchased a Hobbico Tote combo with electric starter and all that.

Was wondering what the best way to assemble the field box is. Wood glue? CA?

Thanks for the advice.

I'd use Elmer's ProBond glue myself. CA would prolly work, but may not stick to the wood as well.

Gorilla Glue is pretty good for that too. It's water activated but very tough. Brush some water on the surface to be joined, brush some gorilla glue on the surface, then join them. The glue will foam up after a few minutes of cure time, wipe it off and you are good to go. It will seal gaps and gouges and hold real well. And, it's inexpensive and available at most HW stores, Home Depot, Lowes.

If you use white glue it should be clamped while curing.

epoxy would work fine, if you've got it to spare. most people don't want to cross that "cost effective" line. LOL

You could assemble, and "paint," with epoxy for a strong and very fuelproof box. Epoxy's not cheap but it is tough.

I just built mine over the weekend and used a combination of Elmer's Probond and 30 minute epoxy. Epoxy on the drawers and most of the APS (all of the thinner wood pieces) and Elmer's on the main box and thicker wood pieces. It hasn't fallen apart yet!

I'll be sanding my second coat of varnish when I get off of work tonight. Then it's a coat of primer and two coats of fuel proof enamel ... with any luck (knock wood) I'll be using it at the field this weekend.

I just assembled a Field Boss (Sig) and used Flex Zap Ca throughout, as well as brass wood screws. I think I could park my dually on it without damaging it. I realize that Ca isn't the cheapest route to go, But it sure holds things together. With battery, fuel, starter, tools, charger and the other stuff that seems to gravitate to a field box, the thing must weigh 50 pounds, and is solid as a rock.

I built the Sig Field Boss a while back with thick CA as the distructions called for...big mistake. I have been repairing loose joints ever since. Do it the right way the first time and avoid the tedious fixes later on. Go with 30 min epoxy or gorilla glue, both would do an awesome job.
