CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IF IT IS NORMAL TO HAVE TO PLACE WEIGHT IN NOSE OR TAIL OF AN --ARF--I THOUGHT THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD ALL THIS STUFF BALANCED ALREADY.........I HAVE A GREATPLANES TRAINER 40 AND A BIG STK 40........I AM PUZZLED ABOUT ADDING WEIGHT, I WAS TOLD BY AN EXPERIENCED FLYER THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO ADD WEIGHT, IS THIS TRUE.............I'VE ONLY BEEN FLYING 3 MONTHS, AND I HAVE CRASHED MY TRAINER 10 OR MORE TIMES, TWO OR THREE OF THOSE CRASHES WAS BY MORE EXPERIENCED FLYERS........I DIDN'T MIND, BECAUSE I JUST PUT IT BACK TOGETHER, AND PUT IT BACK IN THE AIR.....................IT STILL FLIES NOW....I'D LIKE TO GET SOME FEEDBACK ON THIS WEIGHT THING BEFORE I START ON MY TWO NEW PURCHASES............A U-CAN-DO AND A VENUS 2............

sure, some planes need a little weight on either side of the CofG to balance, engines vary in weight and sometimes you have to compensate for the difference. most of my ARF's balance out nicely with out adding extra weight by moving the battery back or forward, and using the recomended engine for the model.
rule or thumb a nose heavy plane will fly, a tail heavy plane will not.
if I remember right a big stick should be somewhere near 6lbs give or take a little.

I have a Big Stick 60 with an OS91FX on the nose in the stock position. I had to add 6oz of weight to the tail section to make it balance correctly. I flys just fine and the added weight doesn't seem to slow it down any. I have several ARF's and have had to add weight to them. I have a Seagull Zero that had to have a substantial amount of weight added to the nose to balance.

if you can balance out the airplane by moving,battery,rx,servos try that first.it is normal to add weight to balance out.like was said here there are so many diferent engines and mufflers the weight diference can be as much as 1/2 pound depending on what size engine.you can move the engine forward or back on the mount some.my super stick i moved it about 3/4 of an inch forward to keep from adding extra weight.it looks funny but fly's perfect.ready to fly's like a nexstar come balenced out i havent seen many arf's that you didnt have to add weight or shift around your flight package.it is pretty much normal to add some weight,but if you can avoid it i would.
