Found an instructor
#1
I did finally call the guy at Singing River RC club and he seemed to be super nice guy. He said they fly every Sunday afternoon. He said they have about 15 active members and they all had buddy boxes to help others learn to fly. Their field is just that....a field. No paved runway or anything like that but at least I would have an instructor to teach me. He told me to give him a call Sunday and he would bring his buddy box and cable and give me some lessons. It's $25 a year if I want to join and when I start flying there on my own I'll have to join AMA for the insurance. Anyhow, I'm excited about seeing it fly for the first time!

Congrats yellowhawk! Sounds like a good deal to me. Don't worry about flying off of grass. Thats probably what most people fly off of. I fly mostly off of a paved runway and I can tell you that grass is easier. Plus, your covering won't get ripped when you have a less than perfect landing.
Its good that you are going to use an instructor, and have the experience of 15 others to learn from-
Best of luck to you

Yellowhawk,
Congratulations on finding an instructor and a field you can fly at. It is the smartest move you could have made. Not only will you have a source of good advice, not that this forum isn't, but you will also have the companionship of fellow flyers. There's nothing better.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Looks like the weather is going to be pretty nice here tomorrow. High in the upper 50's, mostly sunny and 5 mph wind. I can't wait to fly my plane. I've been waiting around a month or so since I've had it. I've been wanting to try it but I'm glad I waited and have been able to find someone to show me the ropes. After this I'll be a flying fool. Once I get the hang of this and get some stick time, little does the wife know, but I'm already wanting a warbird!!!

Sounds like a sound plan. Don't rush the warwird unless it's something like the PTS P-51 or one of the "stand-way-back" scale types with sport style wings.
Don't forget your sunglasses.[sm=shades_smile.gif] Oh yeah, charge all your batteries all night tonight.
