I so enjoyed the PIF thread of building the Barbie plane. I bought an old trainer, and I get into recovering, and I'm sure I missed this somewhere in the thread, but how do you blow up the Barbie logo so I can do this for my daughter? Is it hand-cut? and if so, what's the process for getting it on the wing?

Boy, I can see where this thread may headed to when Minnflyer and Bruce start in. I can just imaging the images of RCKen and Barbie that will appear............

hogflyer, what do you mean?
OK I have a 7-rear old girl, and a 5-yearld boy. I'm a single parent. The boy is all about airpplanes, the girl is all about Barbies. She tends to appreciate my hobby, but I'm just trying to make it approachable for her. If I make her her "own plane" she 1)will love the idea 2)she might want to learn to fly 3)she could get the bug and eventually be a pilot. I would never guide her to something she doesn't care about, but just wantt to give her the opportunity and don't want to exclude her from this hobby, mostly let's face it, mostly boys.

i guess I'm missing the point.
RCKen, why is it time to pick on you?
I just want to make a pink and purple plane for my daughter with a Barbie logo. LOL!

A while back they used to have a "Pick on RCKen day". It was something that Bruce88123 started as a fun thing to bounce around the forums. He started it because I normally have every other Friday off, so he decided I have it too easy and need to be "picked" on. These "Pick on RCKen" days ran for a few months, and then they just sort of died off. As long as nobody got personal it was just good fun.
Anyway, on to your question. I do vinyl cutting as a side business, and I used a vinyl cutter to cut the monokote for the logo. You can take some monokote to any sign shop and they can scan, enlarge, and cut the logo for you. Just tell them that they need to put application tape to the back of the monokote before cutting the logo on the top of the covering. It's actually pretty easy to do for them.
Hope this helps

Hey! Sure we pick on Ken, but we USUALLY take it relatively easy on him.
exeter_acres - We also do it at night.
It's all meant in good humor and Ken gets his shots back at Minn and me. Do we take it personal? Sure! This is a sign of friendship when you can kid around like this knowing that no true harm is intended.
We're just lucky that RCKen has more faults to point out than we do.
I save the worst/best for PM's and emails though.

Hey man to answer your question I think you could easily hand cut the logo. Here's how I do it...
Simply photcopy and enlarge the logo to the size you need it. Cut carefully around it both inside and outside the lettering. Now take a piece of window glass (or your most un-favorite picture frame) and mist the glass with water. Lay the covering with for the logo on the glass and sqeegie the water out from underneath it with a credit card. The covering will attach firmly and still be removed easily. Now mist the covering with water and lay your paper logo template over top and position it. As long as the paper is moist it will stay in place. with a hobbly knife go about cutting out around the edges of the template making sure to cut all the way through the covering. Change blades often for good results. When you are done remove the cut logo and let dry.
Ironing the logo to a covered wing can be tricky because air bubbles underneath the logo can result. Some people puncture the wing under where the logo is put to allow air to escape into the wing. Other people apply Trim Solvent to the logo backing that melts the glue without heat. Either way, work from the center out and take your time. Any bubbles can be later pierced with a fine needle and worked out with the iron.

If i get a black texta pen, and blackout saturday to thursday, then that leaves only friday left so a week only has one day in it , that being friday, so when i look at the calander it is Friday , pick on Ken day . Is that allowed?
