i recieived my Electristar about a week ago. The covering has a lot of wrinkles and bubbles in it. Would ironing it make everything smooth and tight? Would I be able to use a regular blow dryer(hair)?
I cant wait to fly it...but its been Windy in jersey lately also trying to find a large enough field.

I bought an Alpha 40 Trainer last weekend, that was just like that. The covering has bubbles all in it, and the some even come off in midflight. Im gonna try to iron what came off back down, cant do worse that the ppl that made it. Would like to know myself, how to take out the air bubble from the covering.

Hey guys,
I will take a shot at this, hopefully someone else with more experience will weigh in also. I recently got a senior telemaster and found the covering less than super tight. I bought an iron and heat gun, and while using just the heat gun, all the wrinkles just came right out! Its almost drum tight now I couldn't belive the difference. One of the guys I work with told me I could use a hair dryer also, but since I don't have much hair, I don't have a hair dryer.. LOL Hope this helps.

No, a blow dryer isn't going to be able to help you out. They just don't get hot enough. If you are in a pinch for shrinking the covering back down you can get by using a clothes iron to work it out. But in all honesty picking up a proper heat gun would be a great investment. It's the right tool for the right job here.

Not all ARF's and RTF's are covered with a heat shrink covering but the Electristar is covered with Monokote. An iron and proper heat gun are 2 very worthwhile investments that you will find valuable for tightening new covering, repairs and covering kits if you choose to build one.

Heat guns can be WAAAY too hot (don't ask me how I know).
You can avoid doing a lot of damage by utilizing a sealing iron... at least that way you are working on a smaller section and the heat is distributed somewhat evenly accross the surface of the iron.

Hi.
I have a Hobbico Hobbistar 60 MK III
[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGHD4**&P=3]see it here[/link]
I've flown it several times and the stripes and window covering come off after each flight. Pretty soon, I'm only going to have a white plane left. The description states:
Covering: Factory applied adhesive backed (not carried separately)
Colors are Blue and White with Red and Orange stripes.
I used a heat gun to remove the bubbles on the wing, elevator and rudder when I put the plane together and it worked great. But I don't know if the decorative stripes and other covering can be repaired with a heat gun or an iron. The tips of the stripes are very thin and look like they would simply burn and disintegrate if heated. Is there a glue available that won't destroy the covering or will an iron work?

Well, I don't really have anything to compare it to, since it's my first plane but I like it a lot. It's nice and large so I can see it well. I've been out at the flying field about a half-dozen times and can now fly inverted and it is fairly stable. I was told it would want to right itself and turn over, but it's not that difficult to maintain. It can fly very slowly without stalling. If there is a decent wind, I throttle back to idle and it practically floats in the air. I can't do a lot of acrobatics. Rolls are very slow and the plane tends to loose altitude. I'm self taught and the plane has worked very well for me.
The main problems:
A 12x6 prop is suggested, but the wheels are so small that the prop can very easily dig into the dirt while taxiing or landing. I'd put larger wheels on the plane.
The stripes on the plane peel off very easily.
Hope this helped.
