Default RX and TX do they have to be same brand

Do the transmiter and Receiver have to be the same brand or can you run say a JR receiver with a Futaba CAP7?
Thank you,

Well there are a LOT of qualifiers in this answer.
If operating in PCM mode - Yes, all mfg currently run different codes and I know of no aftermarket or cross brand RX available.
If running in std FM mode you need to make sure that the "shift" is in the same direction. Several manufacturers make RX that can be configured to either shift, either automatically or via a jumper internal to the RX.
JR makes one such RX for instance, I believe it is a 6 channel RX though. You need to shop carefully.

No you can't, unless its JR's 6 channel shift selectable receiver. Futaba uses negative shift and JR uses positive shift. As long as the shift is the same and your on FM, you can use anybodies equipment with anybody elses though.

The comment "as long as it is on FM" is not quite correct. If both are PPM yes, but both PPM and PCM are FM so and FM-PCM must have the same brand receiver and transmitter but if it is PPM-FM then, if the shift matches, you can mix rcvr/trans brands.

Thank you for the help, it sounds that it is best to stay with the same brand to make sure they will be compatible.

I've got five different brands of receivers that I use with my JR radios at the moment. It's easiest to stay within the same brand, but not best. If you're unsure about what you're looking at, don't be shy about asking if the specific components are compatible.

Oh, I've got to hear the logic behind this blanket overstatement. Not best? Wouldn't that depend on a lot of different conditions/situations?

I fly Futaba TX's (older Sky Sport 6A and 7C). I use Futaba FM and PCM receivers and Berg receivers. Never had a problem with Berg's and I have as many of them as I do Futaba receivers.

I have an older futaba transmitter. I have flown with compatible hitec receivers (model 555) in smaller models.

Hitec makes a shift selectable rx that I use with my JR radio. It works great, and I trust this as much as I would trust an all JR setup. Just remember both rx and tx need to both be FM or both be PCM, both be on positive shift or both be on negative shift, and be on the same frequency. As long as everything matches up, you should be good.

Why do you think I said it's not the best? There's no single line of receivers that meets all possible needs. If a person really doesn't want to learn about the different compatibility requirements, they can safely and easily stay within their radio brand. If they want the best possible receiver for their particular application, they may very well have to move to a third party's product.

How on Earth is that a blanket overstatement? Did you misread what I said?

Im using Hitec's Electron 6 Rx on my JR's Tx, never had a problem, but I did have problem with JR's RX R700 slimline which IF burned during the flight and made my plane crash.
