Default thunder tiger Dragonfly .15

Well it seemed as though bad karma was all over me this morning..The prop broke and the muffler came off at my first take off attempt...and it was all over the runway because there is no rudder and only a tail skid for landing....the only other prop I had for the Magnum XL .15 was a 7 x 6!..I almost packed up and left , ...so I get the prop on richen it up for the lack of muffler, fire it up , check the controls and land launched it....its pretty FAST...so I climb out and its not trimmed at all, wants to climb and turn left, so after a few laps I can actually look down at my radio and trim it out...after that it was pretty much full speed waaay up there a good 3 mistakes high...until it ran out of fuel then she calmed right down and came in pretty as you please....so I need my muffler fixed so I can throttle it down to floating speed, without the muffler it would die at anything under 1/2 throttle.....So after 1 flight I let karma win and packed it up and came home....until tomorrow when its 70 out again...Rog

Wow! Sounds like one heck of a flight! Don't forget the lock-tite when you put the muffler back on your Magnum .15 engine.

Sounds like you had fun in spite of the "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" reigning down on you at the field. Hopefully the Dragonfly will take off quickly enough once the muffler is reattached so that ground handling won't be an issue.

Oh yeah,, it shows a rudder and it has the hardware for it, but mine was already glued on and covered and its hardly the first 2 or 3 channel plane I've had......pretty nice covering job too...I didnt care much for the hardware package but I had enough stuff to make it work...Rog
it uses standard servos and I have a 1000MaH battery in mine

One more time, it flies more like a stick than a trainer, ie no problem with a victory roll, but I wish I had a nice tame OS .15LA for it, my Magnum.15 while a great engine has had this muffler problem right from the start, I think it was a $5 swap meet motor, I have probably 20 engines from .010 to .46...Rog

Rog,
My sons Magnum15 had the same problem from new, after buying 3 gaskets I lapped the exhaust and muffler faces back to flat and installed the muffler useing permatex No3 non hardening , also used it on the threads of the muffler bolts. As the permatex dries sticky it prevents the bolts vibrateing loose and also prevents them locking in the alloy.
Nice looking model , too many overlook the joys of smaller models, my Trainer was/is (I still have it) an Aeroflyte 15 Trainer 48"span 3ch R/E/T Enya15 TV R/C powered 8x5 prop nice combo.
Also Have an Old COSMO 10 ,42" span 4ch trainer AP09 another nice combo- sad they are no longer kitted.

You can order the Dragonfly .15 ARF and a Thunder Tiger GP-15 engine both for $114.95 ($67.95 + $47.00) at http://www.thundertiger4u.com The Dragonfly is rated for a .10 to a .15 2-stroke, so the GP-10 would work as well. There is only a $1 difference between the price of the two engines, though.

If you're enjoying the Dragonfly and you just can't keep that darned Magnum .15 bolted together, maybe it's worth springing for a new engine. You mentioned that you have a .10-sized engine already, that could also be worth a try.

Well it went on its 2nd flight today this morning I hunted down a couple of bolts for the muffler, thread taped them and put them on..it was flying fine so I threw full throttle to it and it got a tiny bit louder..it died at 1/4 tank and as it deadsticked in ...the muffler is hanging by the fuel line!! called KC hobby they have an OS .15 in stock, going to get it tomorrow,,,wanted too fly to much to the left for some reason ,,had the trim lever all the way over?..must be something I'm not seeing...Rog

ROG
you will like the OS 15s they run just fine. we use 'em a lot in SSC.
A couple of trick for em are :
seal the back plate with something like gasket sealer or teflon tape.
lock tite the screws. all of 'em
some guys score the throtle holder so if it bonks (combat birds do bonk a lot) it will break at the score.
OS 15 fp metal back plate cures some problems with the rough life of combat, you shouldn't need one though.
Sending you a pm
