Here's another question for you guys:
As noted in my other posts, I'm starting out in RC by building an old timer, but modifying for RO RC flight. Got a few Cox 049's and 020's that I picked up off fleabay.
Today, won a bid for an OS 10 engine.
I'm building nothing but stick and tissue birds (I'm too into the 'build' aspect to buy an ARF), so weight is going to be low. Simple RO controls, possibly with the addition of elevator on the larger birds.
What size plane will this 10 engine support? Wingspan? Weight? Wing loading?
I'm interested in big and slow. Don't care about acrobatics. If I can successfully get my birds to fly in a pretty circle over the field, I'll be happy. Later on, after I get the hang of it, I'll build planes with higher power/weight ratios. For now I want the set up to have enough power to simple haul the plane through the air, with a slow enough speed to be forgiving of my ham fisted control inputs.
Thanks!

For a slow flying "stick and tissue" aircraft an OS .10 engine will adequately power aircraft up approx. 50" wingspan if the wing loading is kept reasonable low, say 10-12 oz./sq.ft.
An excellent choice if you have some experience with stick and tissue models is Vic Smeed's Mamselle 52

You can order the plan from the [link=http://www.myhobbystore.com/]RCM&E Plans Store[/link].
About the maximum size for a OS 10 is the RCM [link=http://www.rcmmagazine.com/store/store-plans-catalog-tem.html?item=plans:PL-810&sid=0001Q3iX7bkKNxEqT0045Q8]Big Bird[/link]. This aircraft is a very good trainer with forgiving characteristics.

Here are specs on some .10 powered planes I have built. The Peck Prairie Bird, goofy looking as it is, flew nicely with 423 sq.in. wing area. A Quaker 54 from Penn Valley Hobbies climbed briskly from ROG and had 375 sq.in. area. I built a modernized Miss America from Model Aviation plans which has 500 sq.in. area. It cruised around on part throttle but had difficulty getting rolling on takeoff from grass. With an OS.15 it jumped into the air but had too much power for cruising and was eventually converted to E-power.

I have no clue. Soon as I get it from the seller, I'll take some detailed pics and post them so that some of the more experienced of you might be able to weigh in.

You have reminded me that I built Randy Randolph's Twiliter II glider with a .10 engine and it had 556 sq.in. wing area. It was almost as good a way to get a suntan watching it float up high as drifting in a rowboat fishing. (G)

The HOB kits are hot planes that are very sensitive to control inputs and not anything like the Old Timers this thread is about.

These guys have a number of kits for the smaller size engines. The Piper Supercruiser kit might be right up your alley for just slow cruising around with that OS .10 on it. Good luck.
