Hello all,
I am new to this site and rc planes. I am building a seniorita as my first plane and I am counting on you all for tips and pointers(PLEASE).
I have been reading all these theads about people building there first plane and never flying it, at first I was like that just not right but now that I have started mine I completly understand. I think I am going to build a spad trainer to learn with, maybe that won't quite as nerve racking as flying my new baby. Anyway enough rambling I just wanted to say hello and thank anyone that I bug the crap out of in advance.
Thanks
Chris

Chris,
Welcome to RCU, and the great addiction that we call RC!!
I do understand about being nervous about flying the plane you build, but if you learn with an instructor your chances are pretty good that nothing will happen to your plane. That's what the instructor is for. But you will probably find that the Seniorita is a much better flying plane than the Spad will be, which will actually make it easier for you to learn on.

Greetings Chris,
Get yourself to a club WITH the Seniorita and you should be fine. No guarantees in life of course but I agree with Ken that it will fly better than a SPAD.
Without an instructor it won't matter much what you fly I'm afraid.
Good luck and welcome to RCU. There's a couple of good clubs around Huntsville.

Hi Chris,
Welcome to this hobby. I'm also a newbie, and getting close to finishing my trainer. Even though I haven't flown yet, I have found that this hobby is very addicting. Thanks to RCKen and Bruce88123, they lured me in with their light banter, and then BAM!! Now I'm hooked. You'll find that Ken and Bruce and all of the other veterans here, very helpful. So don't be afraid to ask questions.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I am going tomorrow, if the weather permits, to the local field to talk some people about joining a club and getting a instructor. So we'll see how that works out for me. As for the SPAD my cousin is trying to get me to build one of those he said he would teach me to fly but he has never flown without an instructor plus he lives like 2hours away.
Thanks again
Chris

Definitely go with the club instructor. Nothing against your cousin but if he's still learning he's may not be a good place to learn. As he's just learning he may not have the skills to recover your plane if it get's into trouble. Most instructors are very good at keeping their students planes out of trouble (knock on wood, I've never let a students plane crash yet) which makes it a lot easier for the student if he has the confidence that the instructor is going to keep his plane from crashing. Go to the club tomorrow and don't be shy. Introduce yourself and I'm pretty sure they'll take you in a heartbeat and start trying to help.

Go to the club prepared! If you showed up at my club with this attitude your showing here. I would put you on the buddy box and have you flying something that day. Good luck, have fun, don't quit!

Welcome to the hobby, As you learn you may, scratch that, will become over whelmed. This is a great hobby and is very gratifying. I hope you have fun, and to add to what Ken said, Your cousin is still learning and you may pick up any bad habbits or maybe miss informed.
Have Fun, Dave Trimmer
P.s. no one is finished learning, and there is always something else to learn.

Well I went to the local field today but it was a bit windy there were only 2 guys out there. So they gave me the number of the owner . He said come back tomorrow and he would show me the ropes and get me signed up in there club. So we will see how that goes. By the way, Thanks again for the warm welcome. I am also thinkin about do a build thread so you guys can tell me if I am screwing up, Does the forum frown upon newbies doing that?
Thanks

Bring it on. This may help you a little. Different plane but the proceedures are basically the same for most.

With your attitude , you`ll do fine. Be open and honest as you learn . You have come to the right place.
If MinnFlyer or RCKen respond to to a post , listen to what they are trying to say. Minn has darn near 50 yrs in R.C , just a wealth of knowledge. And hats off to Ken. for the effort and time. We builders salute you and us newbies thank both of you for the help.
Make a thread for your build , best way to do it. Make sure to post pics.

Not to mention those to numerous to name. Thanks all for your time and replies.
Okay newbies, lets don't give these folks to much props (like that?) They will start giving advice on the correct way to cock your head and hold your mouth when you fly.

Welcome Chris,
A good instructor will make the world of difference. When I was learning the first time round (I was 11 at the time) I knew a guy in the club so I asked him to teach me. Unfortunatly he was not a good pilot. my heart was broke taking my plane home every week to fix something he had broke.
I left the hobby for 10 years and returned 17 years ago. This time I got a couple of good instructors, now good friends. Not once did my plane get damaged. I went solo within a month and have never looked back.
I have now tought many newbies to fly and actually get a buzz from it. There is nothing like seeing your student land on his own for the first time. priceless.
have fun
By the way, this hobby should come with a wealth warning on the packet.
