Congrats Gary! It's always good to know there are still a few adventurous spirits who can't be scared off looking at daily crash and burn pics posted here.

My best advice I ever got, "Don't listen to the guy in the cockpit, he's a dummy."
And, "Fly like it is you in that plane."

This statement is so very true...

I new to this hobby for the second time now. I bought an Avistar Select RTF from my LHS a few weeks ago. Now most people would be satisfied to just grab some fuel and hit the field, but not me. First I had to get the whole Field Box Combo kit. Then I decided that I didn't like the way the tail was attached so I had pull it back off and epoxy it in which was another trip to the hobby shop. The next time I flew I found out that the receiver battery will need to be charged after just a few flights. This was another trip to pick up a field charger and voltmeter. Unfortunately they didn't have the voltmeter. Instead I picked up a set of pushrods and clevises since the ones supplied were a little too short to mechanically trim the elevator and rudder. I also picked up one of the Great Planes switch harnesses with the hole to mount the charge lead in. As I was installing the pushrods and switch this morning I realized I bought thicker pushrods than the original ones. As a result the EZ connectors that came with the model are too small. Guess this means another trip to the LHS. In the 4 or so weeks I have been back into this hobby I have been to the LHS at least 1-2 times a week. Next time I go I think I am going to just set up direct deposit. Either that or I am going to have to start leaving the checkbook at home

Still, welcome to the club! Here's to many happy take offs and just as many happy landings!

It still has to be CHEAPER than that dang bass boat, boat holds 50 gal. gas, p/u anouther 36 gal. and at $3.00 a gal. Hell that's anouther 2 planes just in gas alone
then $100 bucks for a rod&reel, bait, you can NEVER have to many worms ect.
intry fee for tourny's $30 to $100!!! no wonder I'm broke
Any one want to buy a bass boat ????????

Nope. A boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into!

Ah, see this redeems me! I've gone hobby-less for years, too worried about my pennies and somehow therefore neglecting my kids. (A psycho ex doesn't help). I finally came back to this hobby for some me-time and therefore sanity, and I can hardly regret it. Plus I include my kids and they love it. I buy used and on the cheap, get lots of free advice here, and I sure as hell don't have a bass boat. It's all good!
