You're correct, I don't need the buddy box function myself, I'm making mine a "buddy box" so I can teach others. I agree with your point about the beginner plane radios. If they insist on using 27mh, seems like it would be inexpensive for them to put a trainer box port on the radio or offer a compatible radio/trainer system as an accessory. But since they don't, I'll make my own!

Here is a "pre-break" reinforcement using a short piece of 1/4" x .014mm aluminum tube cut open and glued directly on top of the existing plastic support.
