Default Negative/Positive shift

I'm an absolute beginner. I'd like to know what is meant
by negative or positive shift in referring to xmitters and recvrs
and what either would mean to me as a practical matter in
planning to buy equipment.
Thanks,
Dabney

Different methods of frequency handling. One shifts one direction One the other. Futaba and Hitec gear are negative shift and FM tranmission/reception is compatible. JR and Airtronics are positive shift and the transmission/reception are compatible. This is regarding the radio signal, nothing else.

One other important point is that this only affects transmitters and receivers. With a few exceptions servos are useable across the different brands.
