hey guys i have a durplane areobat 40 with a o.s 46fx engine in it...I'm also building a greatplanes p-51d the 40 size...what i plan to do is move the 46fx over to the p-51 but this leave me with one plane without a motor...I'm thinking about buying a o.s 50sx and placing it in my areobat 40....i would appreciate and views,ideas, and what you might do if your in my shoes...oh yes one more thing i plan to stay in the 40 size of planes...i thinking about a 3d type plane in the future...thanks and have a good day

How about leaving the 46 in the Duraplane and buying the 50 for the P-51? Better yet, buy a Saito 72 for the P-51!

Personaly i like the TT46pro and the GMS47, if you can aford the bucks a 4stroke will sound swet in the Tang

the reason why i wanted the 46fx in the p-51 because that one is broke in...that way if the 50 cuts out in flight in my old plane i wont cry so hard after crashing...but i may reconsider placing the 50 in the p-51...thanks

i am looking into the four stroker...but I'm not sure if I'm ready for that type motor..

Don't be afraid of the 4-stroke. I just received my first one not to long ago, it's not really that hard to set up or run. I have a Saito 100, and it runs like a champ. If you can afford it, a 4-stroke on a warbird is the way to go, love that putt-putt-putt.

I agree with PigMan, the 4-strokes really aren't that much different from 2-strokes. The only difference I have noticed is that I can't adjust the needle by ear. I need a tachometer if I want it perfect. Oh, and that sound is so much sweeter! I hope I never have to buy another 2-stroke.

I have a GP 51 and that is an awfully tight front end to try to squeeze a four stroke in it. I have barely enough room for an OS 45. Great flying airplane though, add retracts and it looks great in the air. I vote on the 50 in the 51 too!

I would look at the World Models TS 52 engine for $70.00. I bought a 75 size last year and they are great running engines at an unbeatable price.

ok guys thanks for all the input on this reply and I've decided on the 4 stroke...but now which one to get...the surpass 70 II or saito fa-72....what do you guys think....i found the surpass on the tower hobbies site but where can i find the saito at a good price...thanks again for any information

I've heard good things abour the Thunder Tiger 4 strokes and they are abot 30% less than OS

Have had good service out of Magnum 4 strokes. And they are a reasonably priced engine also.

magnum .46 have one in my sturdy bird,same design as duraplane. out runs allmost every 1 at the field

Go to Horizon Hobby for info and pricing on the Saito's. I have a Saito 100, and I love it, great power and easy to break in and run. I believe the Saito is lighter and has more power than the OS. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

The Saito is lighter for sure, but I think power is vertually the same. I know the advertized horsepower ratings have the Saito at 1.2 H.P. and the O.S. at 1.1 H.P., but when the time comes, they both will turn the same size prop at just about the same R.P.M. Finally, the Saito's cost a tad bit more. Here's how I would decide: If the model balances tail heavy buy the O.S. If it balances nose heavy buy the Saito. Performance- and reliability-wise you can't go wrong with either engine. Good luck!
