Join a club and I had an OS 46 LA and a 40 LA on my first airplane. They make cool paper weights.

nope, the 40 was underpowered and used up all 500 feet of runway to get of the gound, so I replaced it with the 46 and it developed some kind of leak and never really ran right anyway. I have a 46 and 55 AX now. they are both awesome. OS makes such great engines, I wonder what they were thinking with the LA line? sorry to offend anyone with my dislike of the LA series. Those two engines set my training phase back quite a few months.

I knew you weren't twinning it, j/k...... OS was just tryong to produce an inexpensive intro engine and did a fair job of it. Some us are pickier than others, I am. And I don't like bleed carbs, period.

I knew you were just funning with me, interesting idea though... twin motors on a high wing trainer, maybe I just found something to do when I am done with my trainer... someday anyway.

"twin motors on a high wing trainer " i'd just buy the ARF
and those poor LA series motors are fine for the bucks but seal the backplate and needle valve and carb and head.... well all motors should be checked for air leaks it just saves on agrivation later. we had a guy in our club bring a la 45 in for a motor repair demo we did with a cracked case full length of the lug the other lug half off and misalaneous (sp?) other chips and breakage but with some well placed JB weld And some shaping before it got all the way hard it runs like a top!

Well I've been tring to fly since I was about 15 ( now pushing 40 God where did that go) I have had several planes and would spend about 2 months being very enthuistic and then do something silly and send the next couple of years getting the bug again. Have had several planes andmany different motors.

I got a new world star forty for my birthday 2 years ago, ( it is an ARF) and it took me 18 months to get around to putting it together. Went out and Get a 46LA for it. Checked everything a zillion times, and went to the club.

After 3 weekends doing a couple of flights each time I was tested for my bronze wings pretty much without even knowing I was doing it. Passed that and now have had a weekend of flying SOLO.

It has only taken about 25years but boy I'm chuffed with myself

My plane flys like a dream and the motor nevers misses a beat ( gee I hope I haven't put the mockers on).

Keep at it and you will love it.

My 2c worth

Good Job!!! Hopefully Ken will be by with your RCU ATTABOY!! I have heard some people have great luck with their LA engines. I guess I was one of the unlucky ones. Just seemed like they were underpowered to me, I still have them, maybe I will seal up the back plate, carb and head like somebody mentioned and put them on a smaller plane. Maybe that will restore my faith in the LA line. I love OS engines.

A solo flight is a great accomplishment and that wins you one genuine RCU ATTABOY (Suitable for framing, wrapping fish, or lining trashcans).
