It gets even better when he cuts you loose and your knees are shaking. I thought it was a joke when they told me that till it happend...13 years ago. Good luck it's a great hobby, stick with it.

Those first few flights are quite "intense" aren't they?

Putting a random Austin zip code (78748) into the AMA club finder shows three within 25 miles and nine within 50 miles.

Is your flying buddy a member of a club?

That's the toughest part of the hobby, especially when you're first learning to fly, having to wait until you can go flying!

A good computer simulator like EasyFly2, Aerofly Professional Deluxe, Real Flight G3.5, Reflex XTR, PhoenixRC, or FS One will allow you to practice flying when your schedule or the weather won't let you go flying. It might just keep your head from exploding! I wrecked my Nexstar trainer about 200 times on my PC before I ever took it out for its first flight.

Your best bet is to find a club. Second option is to use the "member list" search at the top of the forum page and get a list of Austin RCU members. Send out some PM's or emails and see if you can get some info or help and/or instructor.

Bruce already posted these two clubs in Austin. Give them a call and go visit their fields to see which one you like best (or join both! )
