Default nexstar RTF,, noob here,,

ok,, well i guess this will be ideal for me,, i am a begginer in rc airplanes,, so i wanna start off with this one,,

although i have i problem, i dont have nitro fuel avaliable where i live,, but i can easily make my own fuel without nitro,, using methanol and high quality castor based synthetic racing oil,,

i use my mix to run my trucks,, and they dont like it very much, but i hear RC airplanes are netter at running on 0% nitro,,

so will the stock engine on the nexstar RTF work well on 0% nitro??????????????,, i am a beginner so i dont need all that performance

and what are the oil to methanol ratios in theese engines,,my normal mix for my trucks are 15% oil and the rest methanol,, can someone give me a gud fuel ratio for thees airplane engines,

Read the below forum carefully. Maybe this can answer your question.

First I'd say ask your instructor whoi hope you will have what he uses. Most fuel here has 18 to 20 % castor, synthetic, or a mix of oil.

What you are trying to make is called FAI fuel.
You can Google it for various vendors.

Look at the FAI info at this site http://www.cooperfuels.com/airfuel_2.htm it gives percentages which are in line with what the guys have been telling you.

the OS fxi will run on no or low nitro fuel your oil needs to be at least 18%-20% you would be better having at least 5% nitro but if you cant get it then you can run the FAI fuel.
tuning is a bit touchy and more sensitive the less nitro you run in the engine.

Hi Dil:
What is the altitude (meters above sea level) that you fly at?
If you are at low altitudes (less than 500 masl) 0% nitro is fine for the engine that is supplied with the plane
If you're higher you either need to put 5 to 10% nitro or buy a bigger engine to compensate.

swampflier....

i am at sea level,, i live in sri lanka,, so its basically sea all around us,, except for the mountains,, but i live in the main city,, which is by the side of the sea,

so i am at sea level,,, and yayyyyy,, that means i am getting lucky finally.. had loads of problems wth the trucks,, sinnce they hate running on 0% nitro,, the engines stall alot,, but i use high quality ingredients,, so i guess it was the lack of nitro in my truck engines that gave trouble,,

well seems like the planes are better at running without nitro!!! finally i can have some fun,,, lotta learning to do before that though

thanks for the input guys!!!
