are you taking it off a wing or fuse?the way i removed it from my wings on my older ucontrol planes was use 120 grit sandpaper and sand the ribs then it falls off between them,on a fuse or solid wood i also sanded but that was a bit more difficult.i sand as much as i can get off and smooth the wood with a finer grit paper.i havent used silkspan for many years now.

back in the 60's we used silkspan quite a bit on our Free Flight planes. as mentioned, sandpaper and elbow grease does it, but our solution was to soak areas with lacquer thinner (not as fast as acetone) using old towels..........softens up the dope (assuming it was applied this way) and virtually peels right off.

My dad gave me some of his old U-Control equiptment and planes.
The frames looks really well but the covering is shot both on the wings and the fuse.
Maybe I'll post some pics if people here are interested what they look like.
I'm not really into u-ctrl, me and my dad used to fly them but I found radio more fun to fly, and he retired from flying altogether, so I was looking to convert and recover a couple of them, and keep a couple as U-Cntrl for nestalgia sake.
-thanks for the replies so far.

Converting U-controls is usually pretty tough.
engines or at least getting a carb on some how
ailerons
rudder/ground handling
landing gear usually
decent fuel system
most U-controls don't give good places to put radios without major mods
