Besides the fact that they are high wing vs low wing,,,are these 2 planes comparable? Would it be worth while to have both in your hanger? I just ordered a Hanger 9 Pulse XT.....but was also offered an Avistar very cheap(new)...so I took it. Now I have two new planes and was wondering if its a waste to have both. I figured I am getting rid of my electric trainer and could have the Avistar as the back-up. What do you guys think? I know someone else at the club that would be interested in the Avistar...if there is no point in me having it...let someone else enjoy it.

We can only make assumptions on your actual skill level. Asking what the differences between a high-wing and a low-wing suggest to me that you should park the Pulse XT until you can answer yourself.

Having more than one airplane is never a waste. After 20 years of flying, I still bring my trainer to the field every weekend. I just may meet someone who's ready to step up to a nitro rc plane.

Flying some electrics is not on a par with flying glow planes. If your only experience is electric trainers, then I would follow the lead of both warhwk and jetmech and park the Pulse XT and fly the Avistar. Once you are very comfortable... read my lips.. VERY comfortable, then go ahead and build and fly the Pulse XT. But, I would highly suggest that you work with an instructor for the first few flights of both aircraft, particularly with a buddy box for at least the first three or four flights, or until the instructor feels you are able to handle the glow aircraft you are training on.

The Pulse XT is very similar to the Four Star 40, Tiger II, and others. These aircraft are sedate low wing aircraft but can be very capable, depending on how you set them up.

My second plane was a Tiger 60, which is a larger model than the Four Star or the Tiger II, which made it easier to see therefore easier to fly.. however, even after I solo'ed with my Nexstar, I flew the Nexstar for several months before I decided to buy and assemble the Tiger 60, and when I did get it done, I asked my instructor to maiden fly it, and flew it with the buddy box for three or four flights before I felt I had the skills to fly it myself.

Take our advice and fly the Avistar for a while... get used to it, and glow engine powered aircraft before moving up to the Pulse XT.

By the way, among the other very capable aircraft I have, I also have a new Hobbico Super Star RTF trainer that I bought for the club as a club trainer and fly it often. It helps me with how I train others by knowing the aircraft very well, and allows me to practice some very basic RC flying which really helps my flying the higher level aircraft.

These are two good planes to have in your hangar. Keep them both, if you can. The Pulse is a good flying plane, built light for good flight characteristics, surprisingly fast due to a "clean" design.

The Avistar is a good design that has been around for years and has earned a reputation as a good trainer/sport plane. Its semi-symmetrical airfoil makes it a versatile flyer powered by anything from a 40LA to 46 BB engines. It is designed and built as a trainer, so it can tolerate much of the abuse a trainer often gets.

The Pulse, on the other hand is designed to fly and is less forgiving of rough landings or heavy handed treatment that sometimes occurs. You can't go wrong with either one, but "both" are best. If you MUST choose one over the other right now, go with the Avistar to develope your familiarity with glow powered planes.

Holy "stuff"! I received my Pulse XT today....it gorgeous...but man is it designed to be light. The airframe s MUCH different than my GP Super Sportster(RIP). Looks like its designed to be a 3d Plane but its not. Thankfully I have the Avistar to practice those perfect landings with glow power.
